A question for one of our French members, what are the rules  regarding the 49cc twist and go mopeds that you see without numberplates, what are the French laws for machine and rider?  thanks,   Pat.

You'll need to be older than 14, wear an helmet and if your moped is new, you'll receive a license late, if not you can still drive it without one. hving an insurance could also be a good idea.

Hi Gilles, thanks for the reply, we have an Aprillia 49cc year 2000 twist and go, my son will be 14 on the 14th and is pestering me to be able to ride it, I know all the down sides being a motorcyclist myself, we are also bringing two honda 90's and the 1941 Matchless G3l army bike, whilst we are all covered by medical ins. I don't think an english ins. co. will be interested in covering a 14 year old,

so, is insurance a legal requirement for the 49cc,
does the moped need any paperwork,
does the rider need any paperwork (other than proof of age)

  Many thanks   Pat Gill (es)

In case of control, Poplicemen will ask for an ID card of the driver, an insurance certificate and to wear an approved helmet ! (no viking hat...)

You just need the bike insured and proof of age that's what I did when I lived in France.
, of course this maybe difficult if you are using a UK insurer to insure abroad.

If you're on Tetre Rouge then look out for the collection of Moto Guzzis. For a small bribe you might get a lift ariound the campsite (with Dads permission of course!)
