Can anyone help?

I've purchased a camping houx ticket and wanted to know what facilities are available?

It's been 5 or 6 years since me and the lads have camped in houx annex and used the showers in houx. From what I remeber the areas were pre defined and quite small.

What size are the pitches and what facilities do you get for the extra cost? I understand that it has been upgraded does this mean it has electricity to each pitch?

Hi Craig,

Houx hasnt really changed that much dude in the 6 years since your last visit, The shower block is still there being swept out by the lovely French Pikey femmes, the bog roll they give you is still pink. The outside wash basins are still there, I know this because I saw some guy taking a dump in one last year...NICE! They seem to sell alot more grub and beer at the shop nowadays and it stays open longer.

The pitches are smaller and you can get a 2 or 3 man dome tent along with your car on the average pitch, however there are bigger ones, luck of the draw I suppose. With each pitch comes access to power although I have noticed that this can be some way away and normally involves jiggery pokery with extension leads and all that jazz...hope this helps..

later...

Many thanks for the info.

Pretty much as I feared.

The pitches are 5m by 5m but all are next to a road way so you can usually leave your car in the road way so that you don't use half your pitch for your car.

Last year we had a 2x 3 man dome tents a gazebo and I parked the 6m long motorhome in the roadway and still didn't block the road despite the opposite pitch doing the same.
The Houx has one main road and lots of grass tracks that are rarely used during the event. Main hope this year is that we are in the open as we can't have a tree on the pitch as we will be stuffed for space.

The electrics are a long way from some pitches however I bought a 30m mains extension lead in the Carrefor for about 12GBP.

The showers were clean last year as they were washed after every use with a hose pipe, but the crappers are still holes in the ground.

The shop was good as was the atmosphere.

See you there! Grin

Now that doesn't sound as bad as I remember. We're bringing a largish tent and a large red (nackered) renault master (plenty of room for a few cold ones) and had visions of parking the van away from the pitch.

Not too worried about the elctricity as we usually camp in white and need a variety of cables and contectors. Having worked as a sparks for a while and having a health disrespect for safety will manage to splice into somthing (or blow the french grid in the process).

I can't remeber a shop? But its good to hear that the natives are freindly.

Thanks for the good news, we will have cold beer feel free to drop by and share a couple.

We used Houx for the first time last year, check out the web site link and you will see pictures of the site.  There were 18 of us three gazeebos one of which was 27' long. Umpteen cars, a pool and various other bits of clobber.  No problems, great time and there again this year.
