What type of site do you want to see? but generally speaking you will never be far from a country House if thats what you are looking for.

Beaulieu is part of the new national park the new forest, gets very busy in the summer. its also close to Southampton and Portsmouth, both of which have navel history and related sites. HMS Victory, part of the Nelsons fleet is worth a look.

Goodwood, has no measum, but is very much worth a visit. Goodwood house is close by and is open to the public. The market towns of Midhurst & Petworth are quaint. there is also Petworth country house this is open to the public.
Portsmouth and Brighton are also within easy reach.
The track is also a working airfield, so access is always possible. there is a small memorial garden there as well.

Brooklands has a good measum, this can somtimes be overun by kids but is well laid out. Sadly not much of the track is now visable. Places like Kew Gardens & Richmond Park are close as well.

I wouldn't inflict that on anyone!!!

Fortunately I only have to tackle one junction of the M40 on my way home from the office. The problem is getting to it down the A40 out of Wembley, and then getting round the M25 roadworks. It's been known to turn a 50 minute journey into 3 hours +

Hi Gilles,
             From Canada but I have visited. Goodwood is near Chichester which is worth a visit. It is a pedestrian city (no cars in the city centre) I believe there is an RAF museum near by too. If Beaulieu Motor museum is as large as when i visited years ago YOU will need all day there.

I plan (but it's just planning) to leave next tuesday, arriving by pompey, staying next to beaulieu on tuiesday night. Wednesday I'll visit the NMM and after leave to Goodwood and Brooklands (not knowing if it's possible to visit all in one single day of not) after it's an half day stay next to Suilverstone (for professional reason) and a final one day visit to London, hoping to go to flea markets to make a huge provision of automobilia... and maybe a stay on the return trip to the Jersey island.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated...

For sure I'll arrive at Beaulieu on tuesday's evening, (I just sent a request to the Beaulieu hotel for 2 nights, waiting for my booking confirmation) but I planned nothing for dinner....

I followed your advice and just book in this hotel, I'll let you know if it's a good or crappy place.

I may arrive at portsmouth in the middle afternoon (crossing not booked) and arrive at beaulieu in late afternoon if only I not forget to drive left !!!!!!
