I received a pm about this through www.corvetteforum.com The originator has spammed over 1 million people with this message and the concensus is that he is a bit of a tosser ($30,000 entry fee WTF?) and the chances of the event ever coming to fruition are exactly nil.

Is this similar to the Gumball events that have been charging around Europe for the past couple of years?

Potentially, yes - except the Euro Gumball entry fee is GBP3000 - not $30,000. A good friend of mine entered this year in a Ford F150 Lightning, with a 200 gallon fuel tank in the bed. He got as far as Barcelona, before he was arrested and had his truck impounded (which happened to the vast majority of entrants, by the way). Apparently it wasn't a very well organised event. Once the Spanish police had released him and his co-driver and they'd as good as bought back the truck, they sh*t-canned the whole idea and spent the rest of the week ogling fanny at Porta Banus.

You don't win Le Mans - you outlast it.

Relax Gilles, relax. As Matt said, this Kimble is indeed a tosser. He is a fibber from Germany and was arrested for his "business ideas". Besides that, 30.000 USDs ... tse, tse, tse...

Matt,
If I had $30k to burn, I can't think of a better way than on fanny in Banus.

Gilles I wish I could come along, but I have to commit acts very close to murder just to ensure time off for Le Mans in June. I hope it does go well for you. And I will be anxiously awaiting the pictures from whichever intrepid pilots/co-pilots that do go.
