This will be my 8th pilgrimage to the worlds best race, on the ferry tonight with 20 of my closest personal friends..........well sort of.
Last night, my wife, who has never shown the remotest interest in motor racing truned to me and asked " So how fast are these cars then? whats the 0-60 time?"............. Having picked myself up off the floor and stared at her for a few seconds I realised........to my eternal shame, that I didn't really know! obviously I bluffed it rather than show my ignorance but could somebody give me a rough idea . What does a top ranking LMP1,LMP2,GTS, and GT car do top end and 0-60?
Eating humble pie as we speak !

Heres one for starters
The fastest straight-line speed ever was recorded in 1988 by Roger Dorchy in a Peugeot-powered WM. The team taped up the air ducts and sent Dorchy out at just the right time to clock 405kph (over 251mph) down the Mulsanne Straight, as it was then.

On a P&O ferry today there was some info re F1 cars. Is it right that they can do 0 - 100 - 0 in 6 seconds?

I think it is probably about right - i know they will do 0-100 in about 3 seconds - which is pretty scary to think of! The brakes on them are carbon which is INCREDIBLY good at stopping them - so yes - I think 0 - 100 - 0 in 6 seconds - top speed about 215mph on a VERY long straight. Le-Mans cars - 0- 100 in about 4 secs i think - top speed around 225 mph on the Mulsanne as it was - now probably 210 tops.....

in autocar they do the 0-100-0 tests in a variety if cars, and the quickest was the caterham r500 evo, which did it in 10.5 secs, and the crazy 1000+hp skyline can do 0-190mph in about 12 secs, so the 0-100-0 time of 6 secs for an f1 car is probably about right

At Le Mans in 1998 they were running a simulator of this event. It was really good at showing how much quicker a F1 Car accelerates.

Those were the days... when you couldn't move for little french girls in red shorts handing out bright red Grand Prix baseball caps.
