I've learnt my lesson second time round.... I think!

Football + beer + Le Mans = Torn cruciate ligament = Many months of agony

Football + beer + Thruxton = Covered in mud


Conclusion:
My shortcomings in the beer football matrix are decreasing therefore I am hoping to be fine this time out.  Or back up to annoy again.
