Actually Robbo - we are - we are booked in with them on Kariting Nord - i dont know what the deal is though cos the old man organised it.

Even so - there are only 500 MGF Trophy 160's in existence, so if there is more than one of each colour at Le-Mans i will be very shocked!!  Shocked

if you're coming with the MG club, make sure you make urself known,  I'll be proudly wearing the CS Tshirt that you sent me,  or we will have Rhino Racing T Shirts on if i can organise them!!

18 yr olds - male or female??   Grin

Yep, we have a special welcome for new boys.
Stay away from Trayboy though, even the London Hospital for tropical diseases couldn't find out what was wrong with him. Lips Sealed

Steve, a change of topic, but...
One of my first ever motorsport experiences (actually, come to think of it, my very first) was at Santa Pod. I almost kept the pants I filled when I got too close to a dragster just as he fired it up, as a souvenir. I should have realised something earth shattering and bowel loosening was about to happen when everyone else started to back away.
I'd quite like to make another visit and aquaint another generation with what bowels can actually do; what and when is the best meet of the year?

Hi H
I'd certainly defer to Steve, given his extensive knowledge of this type of racing, but it always used to be the Summernationals in August - could all have changed in the last 10 years of course.
Coincidentally, the Mac Tools Gatornationals are being run at Gainsville FL this very weekend. This is a bit of a pisser, because it always clashes with Sebring 12 Hours, otherwise I'd deffo have gone.

The single best is the Euro Finals in September, which for the first time in many years does nmot clash with the Goodwood Revival.
But, The Main Event, on Spring Bank Holiday weekend is a reallly good precurssor to Le Mans. First round of FIA Top Fuel, FIA Top Methanol Pro Mod, Pro Stock........

Aaah, The Antici---pation.

I'll be there, just look out for the TTTD flag on the campsite...

Make sure you go to an event with Top Fuel Dragsters running - they REALLY are an experience!

The sound is SO loud that you dont hear it, you just feel it - it PUNCHES you in the chest.

It is SOOOOO fantastic !

Its nearly as good as le-mans except for the fact that it only lasts for 4-6 seconds a run!

H,

If you want the earth to move for you at a drag race, you certainly need to be there to see the Top Fuel dragsters and Funny cars.

The Funny cars mostly make 'demonstration' runs as there is no official European championship rounds.

However, there is a European Top Fuel championship and this comes to Santa Pod for the 'Main Event' from 28th to 31st of May and the European Finals from 9th to 12th September.
Also, you have see some UK Fuelers running / testing at other events such as the Summernationals June 26th and 27th and the season opening Thunderball over Easter weekend.

Either way, the soiled trouser effect is well worth it.  These 'cars' are the fastest accelerating vehicles on earth and are capable of 300+ mph in 4.8 secs from a standing start to the quarter mile.

If you want some info from Santa Pod, see http://www.santapod.com/
and for a flavour of European drag racing http://www.eurodragster.com/.

If the weather behaves, I'm off to the Pod for Easter, and Steve TTTD will also be there.

http://www.showtimeracing.co.uk/ has some good video clips with impressive sound of their Fuel Funny Car.

Click on 'Video' - "RoundTwoFinal" is especially good.

Sausages, chips, curry sauce, a cold beer or maybe a glass of Horn-Ordinaires Special and a place on top! Mind, I can see problems with lard condensation up in the shorts department whilst frying is going on down below.
Will there be a Mazola Party later?
