Hi, I'm going to Silverstone 6 hours WEC for the first time this year, just wondered if anyone had any experience to share? I'm unsure whether its worth getting a camping pass to stay on site (I have an old camper) or just park as normal and stay at a friends. I like the idea of having the camper handy for the occasional brew or retreat if the weather is shocking but I seem to remember the camping is a long way from the pits grandstands etc

Lofty, it did not help with the fact we spent an afternoon in the tequila tent followed by a 3 mile walk to get some scoff. Only to get back legless and realise we did not put the tent up so ended up drinking more beer in a field......
It was cold though, got right into me bones it did. I have only just got over the chill.......
Im just going up on the day this year, save the living in the field stuff for Le Mans when it is a little warmer.

Oh come on guys - there's nothing like struggling into your sleeping bag, ratarsed, and trying to keep warm in April in Silverstone. It does get bloody cold though! I'm going to stay on the campsite on the Saturday night so lets have a Club Arnage get together.

Bloody cold it was indeed last year!
You could go for the camping near Vale - relatively easy walk in, or go further out - just drive in, park your camper in the circuit car park and if you feel the need, leave the circuit, go to it and return to the circuit. P Mind you, unless you can get to park inside the circuit, anywhere you camp or park is going to be fair hike just for a cuppa!

My over-riding memory of last year was the damned wind - again!
IIRC the air temp at Sliverstone has been in the mid-teens, but given the exposed nature of the circuit the wind whips in and delivers an almighty chill factor.
In answer to the camping question my only observation is that it's pricey given the lack of facilities and probable abundance of great British mud.

Tent in the marshals campsite for me, will still be cold, but after a few beers on Saturday night-who cares
Volkes, go for the Vale camping and walk in. There have been shuttle buses in previous years, so getting about isn't a big problem

Hi Jason, I was going to book Woodlands but will my marshal membership card allow me a pitch in the marshals camp site?

Nice to see Chris Hoy still in the game, stepping up this year from LMP3 to LMP2 and heading for Le Mans as well.

We normally camp at the Dadford road site.
Ok, it's a field but it has a reasonable shower block/washing facilities and is only about a 10 minute walk from the entrance but seems to be pretty good value for somewhere to lay your head for the night - significantly cheaper than the official options. We rough it in a tent but you probably won't mind too much if you are taking a van.
