Now before all you non-AOL users start having a slag, I know, I know. OK?

Any AOL users out ther been having more than the usual amount of grief recently.  Don't want to go into specifics, but things sem to be more than usually frustrating right now.  A mate of mine who is also on a dil up connection is also having grief, and I was wondering if it is just our bad luck or whether problems might be more widespread.

Cheers

Thanks fellers.  My connection via 56K modem, and so is my mates.  We were wondering if the push to get everyone onto broadband has lead to a degrading of the modem service.

Probably never find out.

Merry Christmas

Dial up refers to modem (56k or below)...

At last we get broadband here in deepest darkest Wincanton.  I am just worried the BT engineers will be chased out out by pitchfork armed locals screaming "burn the hertetic, he brings witchcraaaaaaft"

I use Freeserve dial up ( 56k thing ) and its getting worse. I am told because all the development is now going into broadband, hence there are un solved problems with dial up.

I pressume AOL try to sell broadband to you every week via e mail ??

Yes, I'd agree with that.  I had Freeserve dial up before Broadband.
I used to be able to connect at 36k maximum (woo hooo).
I've just tried again on the same setting with the same connection and it's down to 24k, pretty lousy eh!

Gib, go Broadband, you know it makes sense.  Cheesy

I use dial up AOL in the office and NTL Broadband at home. AOL on dial up is utter shite. I am also restricted to AOL 5 because I use Mac. ( AOL stopped development of there browser for OS9 a couple of years ago and are concentrating on broadband which isn't available as yet for Mac....great!)
Everything runs slowly and during the afternoon virtually comes to a halt. Accessing the web usually means the browser will crash.

The way I got around these problems is to use AOL only for sign on/e.mail/downloads/ uploading files and then using netscape browser to access websites. Works a treat and no crashes.
Internet explorer works OK to but I prefer Netscape.

Hope this helps

I connect using NTL, but use Netscape for email and browsing - dont get effected by virus for OE (Outlook Express) or IE... Plus the dreamracers domain email is antivirused and Norton sorts out the rest...

Dont think I would go back to Internet Explorer
