The ACO have announced that for 2015 they are reducing the marshal's numbers from 1,600 to 1,200. "Posts" will disappear and there will now be "sectors". For the life of me I can't understand it since it isn't as if the ACO will be saving much money, apart from the overalls. Some posts are going to be really stretched, with a reduction in numbers of over 50%.

It is a sad day when free volunteer labour is too expensive.

Ah, but wait! The ACO told me yesterday that they have not reduced the slave labour content. They have just been transferred elsewhere. Yet four chief marshals I have spoken to are busy telling old friends that they cannot marshal this year due to cuts, in one instance from 30 to 18.

Its the way of the world, and I bet they're blaming the coalition government or the French equivalent.

This could make night visits to Les Hunaudieres easier

Lorry it is the Gendarmes ( they have guns and will use them) not the marshalls that make a visit track side hazardous

I didn't say I was going, but there's bound to be numpties who think it will be easier.  Besides, I know where the few Gendarmes are.

Back in the eighties and early ninties, the Harper family & friends (Dave, Matt, Ricardo, etc.) used to make regular late night excursions to the Mulsanne, and have some amazing video footage of them hiding, right down along the armco with cars rocketing past to prove it.  My rookie year in '96 we to tried to pull it off, but the sight of patolling Gendarmes with Alsations made us think this might end badly, so we decided against it.
