Just seen this on Beermountain, this is more than worrying: Dear Sir, If you have a gas bottle securely locked connected to the caravan system, there are not problem. But it is forbidden to have other gas bottle, which are not connecting to your caravan and secured. How many gas bottles have blown up at LM?

Small camping gaz bottles appear to be allowed (see second item in 'allowed' list) but large propane tanks are not, unless secured in a caravan or motorhome.
As with all French regulations, the law is harsh but the application of it is generally reasonable. That is of course unless you take the pi** or you upset an official, in which case they throw the book at you with knobs on.

So camping gaz 909's would be ok? Difficult to run a gas fridge or gas BBQ on anything smaller.

"Les appareils de camping de type barbecue à charbon ou réchaud à gaz sont également autorisés de même que les recharges."
Disregard dodgy translation on ACO website. Here is what it actually means:
Camping equipment such as charcoal grills or gas stoves are also allowed as well as refills.

Looking at this they also seem to ban trucks on the campsites. I hope the Brethren won't have trouble to get "Big Irta" on BN

With rumours over the last couple of years about beer bottles being banned, and now this, you'll be telling me they are banning tents next as the guy ropes are a trip hazard! Although they could ban any loud music recorded post 1975 with no real complaint from me

I'd support a ban on guy ropes, especially in the drinking zones a.k.a. campsites.
