Wow, can't be many of those birds still flying. Just watched a programme the other night on PBS over here about the 262, and the massive underground assembly complex the Germans built to keep the production lines from being pulverized by the Eighth AF, and RAF Bomber Command. http://www.pbs.org/program/nazi-megaweapons/I wonder if the 262 coming to Farnborough is the two seater trainer they showed in the above mentioned programme. Replica's? I call foul on that. It's a bit like that Ferrari 156 replica that Chris Rea had built up. Nice recreation, but I can't get all giddy about seeing a knockoff. If the real thing doesn't exist, it should be allowed to pass into history.

They made a batch of them in the states Fax. Not original engines as they only had a lifespan of 20hrs. I think the next thing they were going to make is some 190 butcher birds.

As long as its built to the same plans/style but openly a replica, I'm happy, getting to see groung breaking designs being flown is great. Tbough this traises the old question, at what point does a rebuild with modern, but copied, parts become a replica? - question for another thread |

Yep, I knew there some FW190 replica's out there. As Jason points out, its been a long standing argument, especially in vintage racing circles, what's authentic, and what's a replica. I remember a big stink being raised about a Lancia D50 being entered for some historic events, however the only original components were a engine, and perhaps some drivetrain bits.
I suppose I'm a bit of a purist when it comes to historic warbirds. That said, most vintage WWII aircraft still flying have gone through such extensive rebuilds there's very little original left on them. Most of them were built assuming their life expectancy would be around three weeks or so.

Indeed I'm back there, gaffer not non-motorsporty - quite the opposite really, he's got an XKR and an E-type and comes with us to Le Mans. They've been stymied for the last couple of years by op commitments and most recently by the runway condition. Hoping to get something going sgain soon.
I've probably missed it elsewhere on the forum, but presume from what you say that you won't be on BN this year? If not, then the Ace in August sounds like a great idea

Sadly LM has to take a back seat until I fix up the ancient pile, fences, storms and such.  That the man is one of us is far better news, I have happier times ahead then, just recently read about a runway refurb being needed.  yeehah The Ace will have quite a few Midgets and possibly a peskiness of MGFs in August, be great to sup a few and chew things over then mate b |
