Well it caught me anyway
As the Sunday before the race is Whit Sunday, Monday 9th is therefore a bank holiday. So the major supermarkets etc will be shut on Sunday and Monday

I suspect those in/around LM/Arnage won't close, if they know what's good for them, but it's not a "surprise" holiday at all.

"in general" (and I say that in a tone leaving a LOT of room for manoeuvre!), with the exception of the very small supermarkets in tiny towns in the middle of nowhere, most 'chain' (franchise) supermarkets here are open on minor bank holidays now but of course, it's better to be prepared! A good rule of thumb would be Christmas, New Year, Easter, Labour day and any other holiday that the store manager fancies a long weekend away with his mistress ....

Given that the Intermarch in Arnage was closed on Race Sunday last year there is not much hope of it being open.

Isn't the Monday after the Le Mans weekend usually a bank holiday? I seem to remember that a lot of places are closed on our return journey.

No, that's just normal for France in my experience, many places don't open on a Monday, especially in the smaller towns.

The places I go to are open on the Monday, but it does depend on the mistresses The practice day used to suffer, as most French bank holidays are in May - Labour/May Day, WWII Victory Day, Mother's Day and Ascension Day. And usually Whit Monday, but its late this year. Then there's a gap to Bastille day in the middle of July. Won't get fooled again

The Carrefour supermarket in MULSANNE (not Le Mans as I said in my post) in open Sunday mornings, its the only supermarket I know that opens on a Sunday and has done for about a year (It can get very busy). A few small shops open here and there.

What's the chance of us finding somewhere open on a bank holiday?
