I think it would be supported in the UK, as after last weeks Top Gear, it is clear that our car industry is now making ice cream vans, ride on lawn mowers, JCB diggers and the odd Morgan.  Pit stops, where you had to serve 20 cones, mow a lawn, dig a trench or spray the car for woodworm should be encouraged Grin

Sarcasm over - they should all look like this

I think the days of diesel domination are over.

Toyota are already challenging Audi with their petrol powered hybrid, and there will also be the petrol powered Porsche LM P1 next year. Currently nobody in the US or Asian series is (or is planning to) run diesel power.

But aren't Mazda running a diesel powered car in the Grand AM GX class to test the power plant for LMP2? At least that's what I thought I heard a while back.

Of course I buy green cars, my Aston is green, my MGB is green, my Disco Sport is green,  oh, that's not what you meant by green?

It would surprise me if Mazda are planning a factory team to run Diesel in P2, but I'm often wrong!

This is the Mazda 6 saloon/coupe, and the GX class is stock based.  The motor is 50% stock but has grown another turbo (one big, one small) and the car is cleaning up.  According to the press, they were planning to put the motor in an LMP2 car for Le Mans this year, but development was delayed.

What a disappointment - even Madza, famous for the screaming rotaries have gone diesel Sad

"even Madza"

Who else? Only Audi currently as far as I know.

The "Diesels are taking over" moaning was justified during the Peugeot vs Audi period, but is actually becoming less and less so as time goes on. Audi are unlikely to rain on the Porsche parade, in the same way they 'stood aside' for Bentley.

With all due respect guys, why would anyone want to hear turbines again?  They're as dull sounding as the oil burners.  Jet turbines have ruined the sport of unlimited hydroplane racing.  They used to have the throaty roar of RR Merlins,, now just a montone whine.
Personally I always loved the bark & crackle of a DFV, the scream of a Ferrari, or Alfa flat 12, or the bellow of a unlimited boost turbo offy, but those days are long gone.
