Just watched last night's programme with Sir Patrick Stewart's thoughtful and well presented homage to Sir Stirling Moss. Well worth a watch on the I-player if you missed out yesterday. Looking forward to tonight's programme at 20.00 with James Martin looking at the life of Sir Jackie Stewart... No offence though Mr M but I will be surprised if it is as good as last night's show. Go on prove me wrong...

Watched both programs, both excellent, some very moving footage of the dangers in both era's and Stewart's brave and sometimes unpopular safety improvement initiatives. Did James Stewart, or Martin for that matter (although I believe he does own an old Benneton), drive those cars that quick at the end of the program? Yes, Martin's use of "Formulae" was very irritating.

Sounded more like "form-lee-ar" to me and sometimes "for-mil-ee" (for Milly?). It is very common for small children to mispronounce words by either inverting syllables or by substituting vowels. People who grow to adulthood without learning to read properly (for whatever reason) often continue the habit. If you can't actually spell 'formula', how can you be expected to pronounce it? Enjoyed it........but the use of Formulae instead of Formula by James so pi$$ed me off !!!!!!!! . . . . .or can he just not say Formula?

Did anyone else hear that the BBC pull the second of 3 of these programmes about Colin Mcrae by Chris Hoy for some mysterious reason.
Couple of rumours going around one in particular surrounding the fact that the air accident investigation found Mcrae responsible for the helicopter crash (in which two children died) and the beeb being very jittery about child welfare at the moment.
Shame really would have been good to see.

Recent quote from a reliable source:
"The McRae profile has not been permanently pulled, and will appear in the New Year."
Lets hope this proves to be the case

Err, no.
Worst thing is he lives not too from me rather than back in his native Yorkshire.
Reminds me of another Yorkshireman I also know.

I thought it was a well put together bit of TV. I was also impressed that it did not shy away from the AAIB finding on the crash too - that would have rose-tinted the whole program in my opinion.

Yes a very well put together programme even if it didn't mention his year with Citroen or his Skoda drives. Oh and I spotted myself on the programme as well.

Hmm - I seem to be in the minority here!
I thought CMcR came across as a bit of a plonker (even before the events surrounding his death) and Sir Chris was as dull as ditchwater. For me it was the weakest of the three programmes although I loved the rally footage.
His dad seemed a lovely chap.

Minority, not quite. I know its not easy, but McRae was too happy to drive at 12/10. 11/10 you might just get away with. He took too many risks, including the final one. And his dad did seem a lovely chap, as is Richard Burns' dad
