Yes they are ... and that was my first question too when I saw that "thing" at the test day this year ...

Apparently those tanks are made from some seriously thick steel, so that they can survive an impact. Still an ugly car though.

OK they may not explode, but I can see one of those big heavy tanks breaking loose in an impact and cartwheeling into a spectator area. It looks to me as if they put all the development money into the hydrogen fuel cell and the car was an afterthought.

Which makes them SERIOUSLY heavy....

If those break loose in a crash and head towards the spectator areas, or a drivers head, etc etc.....that is an absolute disaster waiting to happen.....

Yes Brad, you may think that this looks wrong in a million different ways.  Just think, this car is now the DeltaWing.  How about we make that wrong in a million and one different ways....... Shocked

Ya know, none of the Rondeaus's were the prettiest things in the world, in fact most were downright ugly, but, God rest his soul, Jean's cars "had a face only a mother could love" but won in 1980.  Beating what Porsche now admits was a full factory effort.

Not being a scientist/chemist or any other 'ist' for that matter, does anyone know why those tanks could not be made from carbon fibre? Lighter, stronger and less mass than equivalent metals I believe?

I am very surprised that Porsche describe the 1980 Le mans 908/80 as a full factory effort. I consisted of a single car, works blessed in its construction and having little to do with a 908 and more with a set of plans and a box of bits from Porsche HQ, but never the less far from the effort from the preceding years.

Maybe they should have loaned Joest one of the 79 cars with the better aero's and engine etc.

I would not describe the Rondeau M379B as ugly, the early cars and the later strange ground effect effort sure were but the the M379 was the best of the bunch IMHO.

In terms of oddness, while it never made the grid this device does take some beating!
