Found out this week Gordon passed away earlier this year. Dam cancer again Met him a few times and he was always helpful, knowledgeable and a real gent. He use to Marshall around the country and even at Le Mans. I even remember seeing him at Blue Nord with his lad driving his Audi Quattro, and he was only 14, every kids dream. Sad to see he has gone, sad to see it took so long to find out. Gordon - you will be missed and will raise a glass of non-alcoholic drink to you over the weekend. from: http://www.classic-audi.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=18094&highlight=gordon+whitworthworth reading the 14 pages BW2309
It's with a heavy heart that I have to inform you all that Gordon passed away last Friday.
As we're all aware, he'd been very ill, battling very aggressive cancer for a while and carrying on with amazing verve, travelling Europe and giving us the low down on his escapades from race meets etc. He did this despite the pain and treatment he was receiving and had done all this with a smile on his face and a surprising spring in his step. I had been up to see him a few times in the Clatterbridge hospital in Cheshire when he started to get a bit worse - a tumour affected his spine, restricting his movement and finally taking the use of his right leg. Again, not one for giving up, he had the quattro, A4 and beloved Ferrari booked in for hand controls to be fitted!! Sadly, the treatment he needed had a very bad affect on his skin in the last 2 days and he suffered a heart attack last Tuesday (even then he was thinking of others and text me to wish me luck at hospital - what a fella!)
I would like to say from a personal point of view that Gordon, although by his own admittance difficult to get through to at the start, was a brilliant and thoughtful individual that is rare to find these days. He had some great stories from his decades of race marshalling and was generally a top bloke. He will be sorely missed.
I have details of the funeral if anyone is interested in going. I've spoken to his family and they'd be delighted fir anyone from his car side of life to attend. All are welcome!
As his family were not as into cars as he, they are not aware of of his forum use so much so it'd be nice to show them that people cared about him.
My thoughts are with his family and Gordon, if you can see this where you are..... You are missed mate and every time I watch the Grand Prix or LeMans, I'll think of you!

Really sad to hear this, Gordon was a top bloke from the few times that we met at either Chatsworth rally show, Le Mans or our Northern CA meets. I was only thinking just last week that we hadn't heard from him on here for quite a while and like Fran said, we were aware that he was ill with cancer, so it is very sad that we have only just found out about this 16 months later as i am sure that a few of us would have attended his funeral if we had known.
R.I.P. Gordon, Hope you are letting rip in the quattro in a better place.

Gordon always had a tale or 2 to tell at the North West meets, especially his marshalling exploits either at Le Sarthe, Monza or Spa. Whether he was firing up the quattro or cruising in one of Maranello's finest http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-devon-11848621He was a real gent, RIP Gordon

Massive massive shame he was a utter gent and I loved his tales. I used to wave to him most mornings on my way to work as our paths crossed and also meet up at RAF Cosford for the breakfast club once a month. I was only wondering last week how he was.
RIP Gordon and my thoughts are with you

Did not have the pleasure or privilege of meeting Gordon, but RIP to one who had an abundance of the right spirit. The mitigation given in relation to the speeding ban is class.....

Wow - that was a long time ago.....
Gordon always had a few stories to share - massive pool of knowledge and experience.
We ought to try and sort another NW meet one of these years, but we are so rubbish at organising!
