So today he's officially gone from the record books? I don't know what to say? I've spent twenty-five years of my fife as a cyclist, got away from it about eight years ago, when I hurt my hip and couldn't really ride hard anymore. I always thought him a self-important cheat, and met him, didn't think him to capable of it, but really didn't want think this hillbilly was really capable of this sort of manipulation of people.
Guess this is what they said of Hitler?

I don't really see how somebody cheating in a minority sport can under any circumstances warrant a comparison to Hitler. Outpourings of disappointment and indignation are fine but likening the actions of a cyclist to a fascist dictator and mass murderer seem rather extreme.

Not comparing his deeds to Hitler of course, perhaps more than a bit strong, but the way he manipulated of poeple? Alot of well meaning people & organizations got thrown under the bus by him. As someone said on ESPN last evening, he used the fact that he was a cancer survivor as something to hide behind, in effect saying "how dare you accuse me of anything, you must be against cancer survivors?"
There are many of those organizations who are now looking for their money back.

He did very well in the Tour De France in the early 40s.
Then his crack team went from Time Trials to War Trials, and it all fell apart. Those b*stards were all on drugs too if you ask me.

I am not surprised. I don't think I would be able to ride a bike at all if I was on crack.
