I read that because of the budget cuts to the RAF, they would be the only new planes they get this year.

They were never taken out their transit crates, so all greased up for the sea trip over. I would hope that they will get more than a few of them in the air for their maiden flights.

Shame they're not Seafires, we could really do with something for the carriers. Even if they can only make 10 out of the bits its brilliant, even though they have bubble canopies and no Merlin

Fantastic - there has always been plenty of urban myths about buried Spitfires or Merlins in the UK, but they have always been just that.
Just what we to offset all the recent cuts to bolster the RAF's aircraft strength..........

Sounds like a far simpler operation than digging those Lockheed Lightnings out of the Greenland icecap.

That broke my heart the 1st time I watched it. I suspect it'd do the same now.

Had a interesting conversation with a crewmwn from the sole flying B-29 (FiFi), a couple of years ago regarding the attempted salvage of that B-29 from the Arctic. He thinks they just got in too much of a hurry to get it out of there, and didn't check all the systems thoroughly enough, with heartbreaking results. Every year the local municipal airfield here on the east side in Cincinnati has what they call Bomber Week. They always have a B-29, B-17, a couple of B-24's and B-25's fly in for the week. Always good fun, most of the aircraft offering daily flights to raise funds to keep them flying. Took a one hour flight in a B-17 several years ago and it was one of the most memorable experiences of my life. Amazing considering how many of these were built, how few are actually in flying condition. Fax

Always something i would love to do is a flight in one of those old warbirds. The Just Jane Lancaster does night taxi runs around the airfield. Would be very atmospheric.
