Can't make it this year, but will definitely be going next year.

Just look out for the chap with the house-sized rucksack staggering off the tram next time round.

Al has changed for the better. I'm now almost certainly going this year subject to my raising enough cash to do it.

Wow, that's a lot of familiar names bailing this year.  I've sensed a general lack of apathy over the past few years as it slowly dawns on a lot of us that the LM we once knew and loved has changed forever - the relaxed locals (esp. the gendarmes), the chavs, the quality of the racing, the costs/economic climate, the theiving, Mad Friday (now more like 'dickheads Friday'), the prawn sandwich brigade etc.  I guess it was about 05/06/07 that the rot started to set in.

Looks like we'd be better off starting a thread of who actually is going!

I'll be there, but what was once a party of 7 is now just 3, and for 3 days not 5/6.  I could see this being the last one for a while and I think that once you stop there is possibly no going back.

There's only nine on the list!
2 can't go 'cos of arrival of child/grandchild, one's in NZ, and one never goes anyway! Net loss 5.
Yes it has changed, as it has done every year since 1927, but it's still the only place you can see LMP's in a 24 hour race, so it would have to get pretty grim before I stopped going.

I agree, but who are the prawn sandwich brigade?

And don't forget the pikeys and the corporate hospitality

I agree with Barry. While every year is different there have been some really great races in recent years and dare I say some of the changes have made things better while others have not been to our liking. Sometimes it's too hot and last year was pretty cold and 2001 was very Wet...and through them all I have met some good friends and we have had a ball.

At the heart of it all is great racing and that is what keeps me and the core of our group coming back.  I think the future for us may be alternate years LM and LM Classic.
