Saw him at Oulton Park a few years ago, in the Bentley Speed 8 (well I think it was that).

He spent ages talking to fans/general public and all - signing programs, books and the like and not once did I see him moan or complain. He was just enthusiastic about everything

Just is a great ambassador for the sport and Bentley.

Nice guy.

Met him in Cherbourg restaurant after he had won, really nice fella, we were at next table to Del and his daughter and he was happy to keep chatting when his food arrived. He did give me the finger though, and a big smile, when I waved the Jag flag at him when he was boarding his boat for UK.

When I think of Derek Bell I always think of him doing the RAC Rally in a group A Astra in 87 or 88. I think he had Mike Broad as his navigator. The-in car footage was hillarious....pre pace notes remember...

Theres a 90 left a few hundred yards over this brow. Very slippy Derek, start slowing down Derek, listen to me Derek, its here!, its here Derek! Steady, steady.......it's............. Oh Derek! ....BANG... Right, see if it'll come out (waves to spectators to get a push). Right, go, go, go..... Please start listening to me Derek... Long left hander tightens...

Not seen that footage for a decade or more but its seared into my brain.

Bless him!
He was obviously drunk when he rudely refused to hold my 3rd glass of champagne on the Aston hospitality balcony. We both had 2 hands, he had a spare one so I dont consider it an unusual request Wink
However, Steve Zarse standing behind me may have ruined the moment.
The lobster salad was lovely, as was the grilled chicken with pesto, the crispy squid, confit of duck, etc etc etc....and the 4 hours of unlimited champagne....  Evil
I stlill have my wristband and VIP lanyard thingy and will never ever forget my AMR treat from Posh Zarse Grin
Derek Bell has more than likely forgotten me!!

Sat with a beer last night and watched a bit of telly. Mr Bell popped up for a very brief cameo. Miami Vice, series two, an episode called Florence, Italy. Very flakey plot centred around the Miami Grand Prix. Grid consisted of anything they could get hold of, a few stock cars, grand am, Daytona protos, a Spice and a couple of Porsche 962s. Our Derek opens the door of the winning Porsche and congratulates the winner just as Crockett and Tubbs turn up to arrest his father for murder. Father does a doughnut in the race car and attempts an escape by driving out into the city only to be caught by the fake black Daytona. When cornered he runs head on into a brick wall and goes through the screen. The End. Told you it was flakey.
Only redeaming feature is a well driven Porsche 906 Carrera giving it beans around the city at night in the first five minutes. Such a pretty car. Apart from that, probably the worst episode of what was a pretty good show.

No mention of Bell in the titles but it sure was him. No doubt did much of the driving in the action shots.
