Bill Boddy, doyen of Motor Sport magazine has died. He started writing for the magazine in 1930 (then called the Brooklands Gazette) and became editor from 1945 to 1991. I think his last column was in the June edition this year.

Being a decades long subscriber to Motor Sport, this is a very sad occasion.  His columns were always fabulous reading, his accounts of simply travelling to the races were harrowing (and often hilarious) reading.  His recollections of the pre-war era are priceless. RIP WB, say hi to Rosemeyer for us.

Gods speed.

Not only Mr Brooklands, but much, much more on the vintage and classic scene over many years....

RIP, after a damned good innings.

Thats sad news but one hell of a life he lived. I have also a subscriber of Motorsport since the age of 10 (yes, even through the 'red cover' year) and his writings were always the first to be read. I wonder if it will be quite the same without him? I loved his 'old fashioned' style of writing and use if language. He also reminded me of my late grandfather. I'm sure he will be missed greatly.

On the other hand, wow, there will be one hell of a party up there this weekend no doubt!

God bless WB, RIP old boy.

One of the last motor sport journos to have had first hand experience of racing at Brooklands - lots of memories now lost forever - sadly missed.

A couple of great (and huge and pricey) books -
