What about the Gateway? 2 minutes walk from the station, or 10 minute crawl. Foods pretty good as well.

The Gateway is our local when we go to London Irish matches, and was the pub we went to in Reading for Doris' leaving do (not that I remember anything about that part of the evening!!!! ) Martin (The Landlord) is a great guy and would make sure we are looked after well!

Personally I like the Back of Beyond. It's not in the town centre and so it's not so busy and the beer is cheaper too.

I don't really mind where either as I will have to travel regardless, so any hotels close by would be useful.

Gateways very near the station though for us travelling, less distance to carry Jo back for the train Also cheapy hotels nearby.
