Mike Conway came of this with a leg injury, but has since been discharged from hospital and is on the mend. This is an absolutely massive shunt and I'm glad he came out of it as well as he did. It certainly makes an excellent case for the much-disliked catch fencing on racetracks nowadays, in my humble opinion:

Well done to Dario for his second win.

Mike is a lucky lad as that was a huge accident.
Congratulations to Dario on getting win number two at Indy, ironically both under a caution flag at the finish.
Couldn't happen to a nicer person, I interviewed him about his first Indy win and time in Nascar at Sebring has year and he was totally open, honest and down to earth and a real pleasure to interview.

Hi Guys,
Yes indeed, VERY lucky escape. The Mrs and I were sitting up in turn 4 and saw the whole thing break out. I was very concerned immediately after the shunt, seeing the state of the car and the gestures of the marshal's. But once you could see movement from cockpit my anxiety relaxed. Terrific drive from Dario, easily the class of the field all day, in torrid conditons. This was my thirty eighth Indy 500, and I'm having a difficult time remembering one in more sweltering heat Another highlight of the day was Tony Kanaan's "burn from the stern" job, having started dead last, to fighting for the lead in the closing laps until a late splash & dash for fuel.
As far as debris fencing? Yeah, the are tines when its pretty damn obvious its required, especially when the spectators are sitting literally a few feet away from racing cars travelling 228 MPH
Nursing a world class sunburn today...
