Just a quick note to let anyone who is trying to contact my old man at the moment, that he is somewhat indisposed.....

I got a call last night to let me know they've taken him into hospital.  What started out as chest and abdominal pains, which were all a little bit scary, now sounds like its something far less serious in the cold light of day.  They still don't know what, but trust me, he's having a great time getting dosed up on morphine.

That said, he was kept in overnight, and will be in for tonight as well.  I'll be making my way to see him this evening, so if any of you have any messages (preferably abusive) then please leave them here - I will check back in a bit and print out all contributions to give to him - I know he'll appreciate it.

Seriously - some people will do anything to get out of doing the housework......

Send him my best for a speedy etc.....

I suppose once you reach a certain age the odd warning sign needs to be taken seriously, even if it turns out to be a false alarm. Which is by far the best outcome!

My Mum has just called.  True to form, he's managed to keep the whole ward awake all night, snoring away.  In good spirits, but bored senseless.  Apparently he has internet access  Huh so he might well be reading as I type.

Went to see the old boy tonight.  He's got it good in there.... TV, Telephone, Internet access, free food, a bed which moves with electricity (cue fun and games seeing how many weird angles we could hang him by) and nowt to worry about for a few days other than being prodded and poked.  He's having an ultrasound tomorrow which should determine what's what - in the meantime, spare a thought for the people sharing a ward with him - I do believe that the NHS can provide all of the above, but still have rations on earplugs.

I'd quite like to see him again when the voice of reason (mum) is not there - I'm curious as to what the "CPR" button on his fancy bed does  Evil

Curious as to what it does might be the wrong word.

I'm curious as to what he'll do when I press it  Evil

Guys / Brad

Best wishes to the old fella, hope he gets well soon. I don't know him in person but he has given me hours of laughs on CA so a speedy return is expected!

The dreaded button reminds me of the time I went to see my old man after his pioneering triple in Leicester where it was a very new op, many years ago, and he was in bed, things beeping around him, swathed in bandages and drippy things and I sat next to him on visitors chair when my eyes rested on the patient / bed table. I'll describe it for those not familiar - its has a single telescopic support with a table top that cantilevers over the bed, while the base is on castors and tucks neatly under the bed out of the way. Its height adjustable by a friction screw which you turn by hand on the upright support. Anyhow, on the table was the usual clutter, glasses, magazines, tissues, bowl of fruit, glass and a full water jug - in total quite a bit of weight. Can you see what was coming ?

I thought it would be fun to very gradually release this friction screw and see if I could exactly match the grip with the weight so that it very slowly descended a few inches. Oh No !. The combined weight of all these objects suddenly overcame the friction in the stand, everything shot down, I made a grab to get what I could and the whole lot went in the air before coming to rest on the bed and floor with water everywhere. The old man gave me one of those fierce looks - but it could have been far worse cos the fright nearly killed me !

Funny that, me dad never seemed to trust me after that so advice is .....

Don't touch any CPR buttons !.

Stay Cool

Thanks guys, it was a funny old week.....
Monday ok, Monday night/Tuesday morning puking/ runny arse end, Call NHS Direct - could be Noro Virus, Tuesday Wednesday Thursday, felt like crap, Friday OK, back at work, Saturday awesome - Lorna and Kids Birthday present, drove a AM Vantage, 911 Turbo, 360 F1, and a Gallardo, (will post more on that later), around Old Warden, fantastic day.  Upto Shrewsbury to take Mum out for dinner, Sunday back south, arrive at daughters for dinner. As dinner served, real bad indigestion, big pains in lower chest/diaphragm, sweats, puke up, Daughter calls NHS Direct, they panic, think its hart, I don't, but its not nice, - go to hospital, tests, X-rays, MORPHINE...aaarrr, that's better.  Bedded up for night, Ultrasound scan planned Monday, No ultra sound scan Monday, but feel ok, have to wait to today for scan, Gallstones found, plan to remove Gallbladder with keyhole surgery. Home, Bed, work tomorrow.
