Thanks JPC! Yes, it bleedin well is and Rick, SteveB etc, I don't recommend it. I felt very old this morning as I got out of bed with a hacking cough, doubled up with a bad back (from lifting a 9 gal barrel of Harveys finest out the back of the car) and more hair lying on the pillow than left on my head. Still it's far better than the only other alternative I can think of to reaching 40.

However, everything has it's compensations, festivities, pressies, boozing, women all over me (as per usual) etc. In fact:

Mother, father, kindly disregard this letter.
And you need to be forty to remember that one!

You don't win Le Mans - you outlast it.

Dear Mr. Zarse,

Many congratulations on reaching 40. If I may bring your attention to one of the wonderful opportunities that you are now eligible for, that of using the recruitment agency http://www.40plusrecruitment.co.uk/ who are "Recruitment specialists for the mature applicant". You can now look forward to wearing an red apron in B&Q or possibly the dizzy heights of tending the plants in your neighbours gardens.

I do hope you have exploited the possibilities and dreams of your youth and that you can now sit back and bask in the glory of what you have achieved....

Or perhaps it's those very dreams that you are now wealthy enough to persue and mature enough to know how to handle... without passing out!

And when ever you think "Those youngen's don't know what they're talking about"... there's probably an OAP saying the same thing about you. So enjoy your day and remember... you're still not even half way through life's plan...

I would like to echo the last 2 paragraphs of Russ's sentiment.

Having gone past the particular milestone you find yourself at today from personal experience it just gets better....You can do what you want, enjoy it and blame it on the mid-life crisis. Everyone will understand, even the missus. Well it seems to work for me.

Bon anniversaire Smiley

MANY happy returns old fruit from one fast approaching said milestone. Came across a photo of myself at 17 t'other day when I was young (obviously), fit (not in the bird way, you pervs) and single .. what happened?HuhHuh

The 17th b'day was memorable also for being my first Lemons - what a birthday present, gonna have to go some to beat that for the 40th. What was your prezzie to your good self? Fresh coat of paint for the Commer? Croque monsieur for brekky? The list could go on: much like me coz it's Friday night, it's late and I've had some beer .... can you tell?

Sorry to be late with my best wishes Andy, but news takes a long while to reach its way to Wales.
Yes,youve left your youth behind, but you got retirement, pension, bus passes, incontinence pants and Saga holidays to Le Mans to look forward to.
I look forward to seeing next years Zarse's LM poster of the Champagne Gold Rover 216 outgunning a Bentley and you'll be the one hanging out of the window sucking a Werthers Original.
