Following on from the Yorkshire bashing over in t' general discussion- I can think of at least two Yorkshiremen that have tasted champagne at Le Sarthe as victors. Can you name them?

Guy Smith would be one. Peter Walker would be another from Leeds Tim Sugden, he must have won his class at some point btw did you know there is also a street called Le mans Drive in Dewsbury

The only guy I can think that won overall, is a brit and won the F1 world championship is Graham Hill.
I always thought he was born in North London.

Thats the fella! Pint for Nordic. Mike Hawthorn. Born Mexbrough, South Yorkshire 24th April 1929. Winner 1955 with Ivor Bueb. World Champion 1958, but only won 3 GP's in his career. Can you name the cars and the Grand Prixs in which he took those wins? No googling now! ;-)

Without the aid of google I can't be sure. But his F1 career spanned the masza 250F and Ferrari eras so would guess his wins included 1 or both teams.
While he may have been born in Yorkshire, his dad had the good sense to send him to school at Ardingly College, West Sussex, not more than 10 miles from my home, and even closer to zarse towers.

Yes, Ardingly College is about five miles away. Guess which famous Le Mans attendee and Team Zarse member studied there too?

Well they both have a strange penchant for wearing brown overalls and leather head gear, they're like two peas in the pod. Plus ca change... Hawthorn was a better driver though, as many on here will warrant. and
