Parking Under Dunlop bridge
« on: June 06, 2006, 01:16:47 pm »
Im not sure of the year maybe 1998, but i got conned into driving some guys car, that was painted like the silk cut jag, onto the curcuit and along the race track untill we stopped at the Dunlop Bridge took pictures then drove back, unfortunatly they had blocked the exit and called the police, after being told that the car was not insured and negotiating with the locals for a few moments, we decided that legging it was the best option.
That the last time i tell anyone im sobber at le-mans again ;D

Was it either a Cortina or a Volvo estate? They were famous they were!
I wouldn't sit there if I were you, it's still a bit wet.

That was definatley one of the precious moments.

Fireworks, music, Laser beams and the Silk Cut Estate.

I also saw it's sister car a Triumph Spitfire.

The Silk Cut Volvo still attends.

Saw it in the square at the drivers parade last year. Several people standing on the roof to get a better view. The gerndarmes did look like they were about to pounce though!

I also seem to recall seeing one of the cars having "Half Cut" rather than "Silk Cut".

I used to see it regularly at Newhaven waiting for the ferry.  Om virtually every occasion it was broken down and they were desperately trying to fix it before the ferry!  With the demise of the Seacat from Newhaven I no lomger take that route, although had I known earlier that one of the new ferries is already in service I might have been tempted this year.

Owned and still taken by a very good friend of mine, Ray (big guy on the far right on top of the car).  The man was a LM veteran who has given me and my mates some great LM memories ever since we started going 4 years ago.  You'll always find it in Houx campsite.  Friendliest bloke you'll ever meet, just don't try and take away his beer or 'specialist' magazines!!!

The car is Bertha IV and is clinging on to life now.  A new incarnation is imminent...
