Depending on what time of the morning you staggered out of bed it was either -

a) the warm up
b) the safety cars
c) the classic cavalcade
d) the support race
e) the 24 hour race.

Not quite Steve

Most years, one of the car clubs arrange with the ACO to be the group of that year. It normally coinsicdes with an historic event for the race i.e. X years since they first competed, last won etc.

Two years ago, it was the Morgans that did it (I know this as my business partner has a Plus 8 so did it) Last year I thin it may have been Ferraris. This year I'm guessing it may have been Lotuses??? Or is that Loti???

Basically you pay a fortune to be part of an official group well in advance and get a couple of laps. I think it's behind a safety car or lead car of some kind.

It normally takes place at about 7.00/7.30am

Hmmm. A chap from our road took his brand new Elise on the track this year.

When Paul took his Morgan out it was only 18 months old.

Hardly "Classics"

I took the Omega with caravan on the track but it wasn't on Saturday morning. Nearly reached the grandstands with it!  ;D

Last year at the main LM 24 some of the Ferrari owners club had the opportunity in doing the 3 lap procession, if you would like some views, wait for the classic for the following reasons.

The main event if you can get out costs over 700 euro's for three laps with a pace car.  The pace car has direct contact with the track officials any lagging behind and the pace stops until the line of cars has all caught up, so any thoughts of having a decent blat, forget it.  you go out around 07:00 in the morning but the assembly is around 05:30 so you can have a breakfast.

However, the classic is a different kettle of fish,  it costs 100 euro,s, no pace car and no speed restriction.  Although there were a number of children out prior to me and JPC last year which meant their sessions were red flagged while the wreckage was removed, so beware, keep of the rumble strips.

It truly is a fantastic experience, especially going passed all the well known landmarks and using all the road, bliss.

When we did it last year we actually booked on our arrival day, things may change for next year, so if you have a half decent classic and a spare 100 euro's enjoy three laps of the full LM circuit. ;D  You will come off with a smile a mile wide.

 :-* :-* :-*

Just thought I might mention that I am on the look out for a Mk1 Mexico - so if you have any clues as to where a good version of such might be, please let me know.

I could then join you on the Le Mans track trial thingy!
