From The HSCC...
Largest ever field of historic F5000 and Can-Am Cars scheduled at forthcoming Brands Hatch HSCC Superpirix
6.7.05. Do you remember the awesome Formula 5000 single seaters or the fabulous Can-Am McLarens and Lolas with big-block Chevy power, which terrorised the race tracks during the 1970s? Well, if you do, there’s a treat in store at Brands Hatch over the weekend of July 22-24 when the Kent circuit stages the Historic Sports Car Club Superprix.
No less than twenty five Formula 5000 cars are promised – the largest number ever assembled at a historic event in the UK.
The 5-litre, Chevrolet V8-engined Formula raced across Europe, the United States, South Africa and Australia in the late 1960s and 1970s and F5000 cars were the fastest single-seaters of their day.
It is now New Zealand that leads the way in restoration and use of the single-seaters. For the Brands Hatch event, nine cars are being shipped halfway around the world to take part, with eight Kiwi drivers following them.
In addition to a re-run of the F1 versus F5000 Race of Champions, which took place in the 1970s, the popular annual Superprix will feature a rare appearance for the monster Can-Am sportscars of the ‘70s in the Orwell International Supersports Cup races. A large collection of the brash, brawny 8-litre machines will include Lolas and McLarens, plus Chevrons and others in an estimated 20-car field.
Tickets for the HSCC Superprix are available in advance by logging on to
www.motorsportdirect.co.uk or calling 0870 950 9000. Advance tickets cost £10 per adult per day. Tickets on the gate will cost £12 per adult per day, with children aged 12 and under free. Parking and paddock access is also free.
