The Mike Jankowski-Ian Bickerton led team will be the stars of a newly commissioned six part documentary series, to be shown on the Discovery Channel.
Titled “Engineering Le Mans”, the series will focus on the development and engineering of a sports prototype racing car for the most famous sportscar race in the world.
Creation’s preparation for, and progress through, its very first Le Mans 24 hour race will be filmed by London production company, The Gamma Project. The fly-on-the-wall style of documentary will allow viewers an up-close and personal insight into the highs and lows of endurance racing, and the technological and logistical challenges of getting man and machine through one of the most gruelling motor races of them all.
As part of its preparation, the team and its drivers, Nicolas Minassian and Jamie Campbell-Walter, have already been filmed testing and developing their DBA-Judd, in both Britain and France. Andy Wallace joins them for Le Mans. Gamma’s Director, Hugh Whitworth, and his film crew also shadowed the team’s every move in the first race of the team’s 2005 season – the six-hour event at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium on April 17.
The Gamma Project’s most recent involvement with has been with another Discovery Channel commissioned series called Chris Barrie’s Massive Machines, which has also been broadcast on Channel Five. They have also filmed the US Champ Car Series in the past so are well placed to understand the technological and emotional appeal of motor sport.
The 6 x 30-minute programmes will be broadcast soon after the Le Mans race (18-19 June), at a date yet to be confirmed, and it is expected they will be shown throughout Europe, the Middle East, Africa, India, Central and Southern Asia.
The team enjoyed its more successful test ever at Magny-Cours earlier this week – and showed race-winning speed at Spa last month. The next one is the big one.
