Beermountain main crew will be ex Pompey bound for Caen on the Wed evening tide with Brittany. God forbid anyone in the cabin next to Mr Disco - I'm going on a different boat altogether...

Stop press - Swiss has given me a full time employee to handle set up and bar duties for our base next year - how cool is that? Mr T

Del - smart mvoe. I would be not far behind you if only I had 1) a bit more dosh and 2) a more enthusiastic partner (in more ways than one!). But being nowhere near (well, not too near!) retirement age, I need to work a few more years before it becomes a reality.

I'd be interested to have a chat at LM about the practical side of buying etc

Surely something so serious should be discussed when you are sober!!!!   Wink

Only if you are intending staying sober when you are en residence...

I was in Leuven (Belgium) at the weekend. Europe is so much more, well, cool. Driving is good. Bars were open till the last person leaves (often 7 am on Fri or Sat apparently).  Everyone speak my lingo. Beer, washing powder , fags and windscreen wipers are cheap. What more could a man want?

Wish I knew you were going - would have asked you to get some baccy!!

I'm sure we can find a reasonably sober period on MB to have a chat re buying in France.  I have done a lot of research, and you're welcome to pick my brains.  We were all set to go house-hunting early July, but the day before we sailed, I slipped a disc in my back, and we decided to put it off for a year.  Regarding retirement, I've got the big six-oh next year and want to retire, but can't afford to in the UK, hence the move to France.  I just love the laid-back way of life in France - discounting, of course, a particular w/e in June in La Sarthe!!
