plus points on your UK License.
I don't believe that they have the facilities to put points on UK licences yet, although some gravy train MEP's are discussing it.
Prehaps Kpy could give us a good English translation, please.
You guys have the gist of it.
over the limit by less than 40 kph - 90 euros on the spot fine.
40-49 kph over and the fine goes up to 135 euros PLUS confiscation of your driving licence (which means you are banned from driving in France) and endorsement of the offence on your licence and noting the offence on the French national computer system. Possible confiscation of the car.
50 kph or more over the limit and the fine goes up to 750 euros along with the confiscation and endorsement of your licence and possible confiscation of the car.
They cannot currently put points on your lcence, although the
British European Commissioner Neil Kinnock is putting a Europe-wide points and banning system in place (he works pretty slowly). It's because they can't put points on your British licence that they have worked out a way to dealing with speeding Brits which will be effective and results in their being able to identify repeat offenders.
The procedure is specific to British nationals for the above reasons and also to ensure that the French police provide all the forms and information to British offenders in
English.
Be assured that the French traffic police do not confine their attentions solely to British motorists. There has been a huge crackdown on traffic offences for more than a year now, due to the appalling accident rate over here. Speeding is perhaps the easiest offence to detect and deal with.
