OK, my problem is this:
Dumped E reg' XR2 at a local church car park (private land) and has been there for several months, and they want it moved. We have checked into the legality of all this and the police have told us that as long as it is on private land, which it is, all they have to do is put up a "shift it in 7 days or we will notice" on the cars windscreen, and then the church can do what they want.

This is where I come into the frame; I have said I will take it off their hands, as the bodywork from what I have seen is sound, even where I can get my hand behind plastic bits. Interior looks clean, but no idea what it is like mechanically, etc... But before I can even move it, I need to be able to gain access, and this can be done in afew ways (and this where I need your advice)

1) Break a window - are they easy to replace? Is one easier to swap than another?
2) Break the lock - as it will be a track car, lock doesnt matter - easy way to do this?
3) Force the boot?

I think option 2 is my best bet, but not sure the best way to do it. Would an old metal coat hang do the trick? I have done this before when I locked the keys in my wifes Capri a year or two back :| Time taken to gain entry is not an issue, as what we will be doing is completely legal and even if it has an alarm, that can blare out as much as it likes as the police will be aware of what we are doing. BTW: I am too tight to pay a locksmith....

As a note: I am completly genuine with this request and have NO desire to use this knowledge for illegal means, and in no way hold anyone here responsible for the advice I may be given. If you do not want to post advice, please feel free to message it to me.

Thanks folks, in advance.

the boot lock is always easier to force, but you need after to be quite thin and souple  Tongue

Have you no towing truck in your relatives' ? this gonna be the easier way to remove it out of the church.

I replace twice a front window of my VW Golf, and it's quite easy, so it sounds not too difficult on an Escort...
... and it's probably a spare part which is easy to find in a car cemetery. Maybe from one year to one another they didn't change that part.

BTW are you sure this car wasn't a gift to the church community and is an holy car as cows in India  Grin Grin Grin

you also can gain access without breaking anything, just by making a flat hook that you can glide between the window and the door panel.

With the hook you'll soon be able to find the little inside-door locking system and you may simply need to move up the system to unlock your door.

Gilles flat metal with hook end is the way . To stop the alarm on any Fiesta , take the indictor fuses out as soon as you get in , should they go off .

Alternitavely fill the bell alarm with expanding foam to remove the noise.

If you cant get in by hook, take a huge screw driver , slam it into the key slot and twist to the right. you must get the end in by at least 5 mm to access the lock, and a little muscle to twist .

Last wat is to pop the rear windscreen out. Lots of washing up liquid watered down , a soft edged implement ( electric tape round a screwdriver , and gentle prise of the trim, held in by 4 metal clips , then prise out the screen, remembering to un hook the electric cord to the heating element.

To be fair there is nothing that can be posted that isnt already common knowledge to those who want to know.

I once lost the keys to a hire car (Fiesta) so called out breakdown recovery. The bloke had some special looking tools but due to internal design of the door panels (designed to stop people breaking in) was unable to flip the locks.

So he physically bent the front edge of the door (by the window)  sufficiently out of shape that he could get one of his tools to the lock knob and flip it up. Then, once it was opened, he just bent the door back into shape.

I hope that makes sense.

btw I don't think the alarm went off...

Cheers guys - Will let you know how I get on - should be next week sometime.

Will try the old coathanger/flat metal with hook trick, and if that fails will use a screwdriver, and if that dog dont hunt, I'll "bend the door" (I think I know what you mean) and try coat hanger/flat metal, if all e;se fails it'll be window busting time and a trip to the scrap yard Tongue

Robbo - The tip for the indicator's fuse is a top one, but dont think the alarm will still be working as it has been there for ages and the battery is prob as flat as a witches tit, but will make sure I know where the fuses are before I go  Wink

THANKS AGAIN!

That isn't an expression that we learn here in France in English classes !!!

Has it any connection with Harry Potter ??

Try coathanger trick first and if not bust window. Cheap enough from scrap yard. For a quicker solution.

1. Obtain short scaffold tube
2. Bust window and enter car.
3. Smash plastic around key.
4. Place tube over lock and snap off.
5. Turn the ignition bit thats left and your away.

Then drive like a t w a t over speed humps etc, rally it over your local playing field and then of course, set fire to it after that. Seems to satisfy a lot of the youth of today.

They seem to like bending back doors down south , get the top of a cavalier door , insert hands down into rubber seal , and heave ho , untill , door frame buckles , then pop open interior door lock, sorted.
