French Breathalyzer Laws Suspended

The law brought in earlier this year making it mandatory to carry breathalyzers in the vehicle when in France has been suspended. Similarly, the law requiring Motor cyclists to wear hi-viz armbands has also gone.

Now they are no longer a legal requirement I thought I would use mine as part of a scientific experiment. Four pints of 5% lager and the tester told me that I was still OK to drive. So not really an exact reading and could have lead to all sorts of problems frog side.

I did the same, didn't register the 6 pints last night.

6 pints and still OK to drive - these breathalyzers must be Gendarmerie surplus, and in perfect working order

Hi,
Can anyone please RE-Confirm that this has indeed been suspended and repealed?
Despite the above discussion and repeated confirmation from my colleagues in France, I have just see the outside REAR COVER of this weeks Le Mans Special AUTOSPORT magazine.
Full page advertisement jointly from Alcosense and Halfords stating that "You'll need one of these by law".
Do I need to get some of these breathalyzers to be sure, or should I treat this advert as complete Borrocks like most of the other stuff in Autosport?!?!
(Mr. Ricks article excepted of course)

The possession of these things is indeed compulsory
BUT
There is no penalty for not having one
cf:http://www.ambafrance-de.org/Automobilistes-ethylotest
So you do indeed, as stated in the ad "need one of these by law"
