Just changed the oil and filter on the astra and found some metal stuck to the sump plug and in the oil.
I usually change the oil every 4/5000 miles and fit a magnetic sump plug but this is the first i've done the astras and i've never had this with any of my other cars. The oil was pretty minging and obviously had'nt been done for a while.
Should i be worried even though im trying to sell???

Just sell it.
Anything on the magnet wil be iron. Do look for small flakes of metal in the oil which will initially be whitemetal from the bearings (copper coloured in 16v Astras). (And how much metal is caught in the filter). Once the whitemetal is worn through it starts on the steel. If its got oil pressure and isn't making too much of a tapping noise, or much smoke, just sell it

Stop trying to diagnose it, and shift it before it starts to arse about.

Old oil, low oil and thrashed. The only real way to find out whats wrong is to pull it apart I'd expect to get 150k out of a modern petrol engine thats looked after, but if the oil pressure drops, some Vauxhall main bearings are a bit fragile Oh, and if there's iron filings in the sump, then they've been in the oil pump too

My mate thats comming this year is a bit like trigger I took the car a spin yesterday and drained the oil tonight then filled it again. No sign of anything in the new oil so fingers crossed it'll hold together till an idiot (buyer) comes along.

Tidied up some paperwork last night that was needing put away in a safe place and discovered the warranty the car was sold with. Quick phone call to the dealer this morning and it turns out that i might just be covered even though i changed the oil and filters myself. Once they get the car and check it out the worst case for them (best for me) is a new engine, Best case for them is engine out, stripped down, parts replaced and engine back in. The only upside to the second option is it might give me the chance to throw some uprated parts into the rebuild and squeeze a couple of extra ponies out of it

It's an Astra.
Just drive it over a speed bump or two, and hey - presto!
