Had problems with myb laptop this morning, could not log on. Thought it was the pc.

Then I read this, and removed the last update and works OK now.

Just in case anybody else has the problem. Mind you if your pc is not working, not sure how you are going to read this?

Windows update leads to web black-outMike Harvey, Technology Correspondent
Full story: Tech giants unite to thwart web hijack risk

Hundreds of thousands of people who use the ZoneAlarm firewall to protect their PC have been locked out of the internet by Microsoft's latest round of software updates. Microsoft released four high-priority fixes as part of its regular Patch Tuesday update, one of which left ZoneAlarm users without web access.

It is thought that the MS08-037 fix is designed to plug a vulnerability in the way that Windows handles the internet's system of addresses, which could have allowed hackers to reroute web users to malicious web pages. The patch appears to have been responsible for "compatibility issues" with ZoneAlarm.

A spokesman for ZoneLabs, the company that manufacturers ZoneAlarm, said the problem had come to light when US users began downloading the Microsoft code.

Zonelabs posted this advice: "Sudden loss of internet access: Microsoft Update KB951748 is known to cause loss of internet access for ZoneAlarm users. We recommend that users uninstall KB951748 using "Add or Remove Programs" until the issue is resolved."

Thank you for that!!

I had my suspicions when I returned to my pc and found it had restarted. No internet connection after that which kind of pointed to the update.

I found that moving Zone Alarm to 'Medium' allowed connection temporarily.

Anyway,  good old Windows. [3 pc to do now Roll Eyes]

I've had the same problems.

Trouble is, without web access, I couldn't see the problem/solution.

I had the same and by trial and error found that the firewall was at fault so have gone back to the windows firewall and removed zone alarm completly. Didn't realise that others were affected!!
