Backed up by this, on Pistonheads.

Team Modena will be running two Lamborghini Gallardos in the GT3 class of the Avon Tyres British GT Championship in 2007. The cars will be run from the Lamborghini Wycombe workshops overseen by team principal Graham Schultz, with one car competing from the start of the season and the second joining in after the early rounds.

"It's an honour and a privilege for us to the be the first official Lamborghini dealer to go racing," said Schultz, "and we are looking forward to the British GT season ahead. We'll have one car ready for the opening round at Oulton Park, with the second appearing three or four races into the season.

"We are very excited by this programme, GT3 and the Gallardo are natural fits with what we do at Lamborghini Wycombe, and we will be running the cars from there all year. The intention is to have Antonio Garcia in the car for the opening round, and we are hoping for a good result on our debut."

The Lamborghini Gallardos are built by Reiter Engineering in Germany, who have been working closely with Team Modena throughout the project. The GT3 campaign will run alongside Team Modena's Le Mans 24-Hours and Le Mans Series 2007 schedule with their Aston Martin DBR9 from the same High Wycombe facility.

"The campaign will be another string to our bow," said team co-owner Rik Bryan, "and it is exciting as the Lamborghini is the perfect car for us with the Lamborghini Wycombe connection.

"It is an opportunity for us to show what Team Modena can do with our automotive, engineering, R&D and race team experience."

The 2007 British GT series will be held over eight meetings at the UK's leading circuits. The highly competitive series sees the Team Modena Lamborghini up against cars from famous marques such as Ferrari, Aston Martin and Porsche in the competition for GT3 class honours -and the overall title.

And now their first win.......(from Autosport)

Lamborghini take first ever win

Sunday, March 25th 2007, 11:21 GMT

Lamborghini took their first ever FIA GT Championship race victory in the 2007 season-opener at Zhuhai.

Christophe Bouchut and Stefan Mucke's surprise triumph was partly a tactical one - having made early pit stops, they were able to leap to the front of the field when the leaders had to pit during a late safety car.

But once ahead, the Lamborghini had the pace to edge away from the chasing Philipp Peter/Luke Hines PSI Corvette in the final 16 laps and secure the win.

The Mike Hezemans/Jean-Denis Deletraz Corvette had led the early laps before being overhauled first by the polesitting Vitaphone Maserati of Thomas Biagi and Michael Bartels, then the older sister Corvette driven by Bert Longin and Anthony Kumpen.

The latter car then emerged at the head of the field after the first stops, and resisted the chasing Maserati until the final pit sequence turned the order inside out.

Kumpen and Longin salvaged third place, but the Phoenix/Carsport Corvette and Vitaphone crews had to settle for fifth and sixth, behind Fabio Babini and Jamie Davies in the best of the Aston Martins.

The Scuderia Playteam Maserati squad also had a shot at victory early on, despite their lead car being spun at the first corner of the race. Second string pairing Alessandro Pier Guidi and Giambattista Giannoccaro moved into the top three before retiring after running out of fuel.

The GT2 order was shuffled by a first corner accident that delayed several of the main contenders. Emmanuel Collard and Matteo Malucelli fought back through the field and appeared to have taken the class win in the Scuderia Italia Porsche, only for the car to fail scrutineering due to a ground clearance issue.

The AF Corse Ferraris therefore moved up to take a GT2 one-two, with Dirk Muller and Toni Vilander leading home teammates Gianmaria Bruni and Stephane Ortelli.
