To add speed, just add lightness.

From Autosport......

Former LMP2 class champions Intersport Racing have announced that they will switch to the LMP1 class for the 2007 American Le Mans Series.

The team will race a Creation CA06H chassis powered by a Judd engine, having previously raced a Lola in LMP2.

"We have said for the past few years that we would like to be in LMP1," said team boss Clint Field, who was part of the driving line-up that won the LMP2 title in 2005.

The independent team lost out to Porsche in the battle for class honours last year, but as several more teams join the LMP2 fold, they will leave the class go up against Audi in LMP1.

"Granted, the numbers in LMP1 are down right now, but long-term we felt the class will see renewed growth," Field added.

"This is as good a time as any for us to develop our programme. We know we can make the car fast, that's never been a problem for us.

"The focus is going to be on making sure we're durable and reliable, and I think our guys are up to the challenge."
