I am going this year (birthday present) and staying in a B&B in Silverstone for the weekend. Having never done this before at F1, I am not sure what to expect.

Are the pubs in the town any good, anything happening outside of the race itself that I should not miss, where do I find details of what's going on at the circuit (Saturday, Sunday, etc).

Any help appreciated.

We're going too, but camping near the circuit.

Event timetable can be found here http://www.silverstone.co.uk/pdf/F1EventTimetable.pdf

Silverstone village pubs will be packed, sadly one closed down due to lack of trade after the A43 dual carriageway was opened.

Theres usually a funfair in one of the fields opposite the circuit, if thats your thing, we'll be partying on our campsite on thursday and friday night, Saturday night we will be attending the BRDC party.

You have to be a member of either the BRDC or the SRC.  I'm a member of the latter.  See here http://www.silverstoneracingclub.co.uk/ for details on the SRC.
