New films in pipeline

Just read this
The first; a movie about the on-track rivalry between
Niki Lauda
and the late
James Hunt
. Entitled Rush, it is a project from Revolution Films, Working Title and Cross Creek Pictures, with Chris Hemsworth and Daniel Brühl expected to play Hunt and Lauda respectively. The project is due to get rolling in late 2011 with UK and Germany as locations. Ron Howard has been secured to direct the film.
Top director, he won't come cheap so could be interesting.
Details about Rush come at the same time as Scott Free, Headline Pictures, Sennet Entertainment and FremantleMedia Enterprises are putting together a package for
The Drivers
, a lavish drama based on the high-octane 24 hour motor race in Le Mans during the 1950s/1960s.
Stewart Mackinnon at Headline Pictures believes the project, based on Wallace A. Wyss’ book, Shelby: The Man, The Cars, the Legend, has global appeal. "The Le Mans brand is well known and will help sell the show but at the heart of this is an exciting, compelling story about some of the most colourful & adventurous legends the racing world has seen."
I wonder how much the ACO will help them?

Think I saw someting about the le mans film a while ago. The Ron Howard film is a new one.
Always wary of racing films, this one seems to have some big names involved, maybe it will be the one to break the mold.

Some people will tell you that slow is good - and it may be, on some days - but I am here to tell you that fast is better.

Likewise, too many racing turkey's have been released in recent years, most Indycar fans still have nightmare's about Stallone's Driven. However a film about the 1976 title fight could be interesting, much of that season seemed like something from a Hollywood film. For those of us who are old enough to remember the summer of '76, it could bring back some great memories. I remember Barry Sheene's lovely quote "I was already in Japan doing some work for Suzuki, so I went to Fuji to lend James some immoral support"
