Admit this is probably a bit lazy as I'm sure the answer is somewhere on here but does anyone know what time the campsites open on Monday? In particular Tertre Rouge? Thanks

He drove his ear-splitting 1969 matra at Goodwood Festival of Speed 6, maybe 7, years ago, and, although his English was as limited as my French is, he came across as a great guy. After lots of 'charade' style translation he explained that he was wearing the same overalls that he had worn in that race - still not sure if he had ever taken them off since 1969.... I reckon that Rendezvous must be the best motorsport film ever made and should be compulsory viewing for all CAers. Can anyone suggest a better motorsport film? Le Ronde Infernal must be up there, if only for the Le Mans theme tune?

commiserations fs. you don't look like you're having the best time in that photo. we were prob changing ambulances at about the same time in that medical centre just down from aco clubhouse area. i was the guy crying for his mummy and swearing at any bastard that came within 1/2 mile of my left arm (except when they came to top up the morphine).
to answer jpc i was on the ride at the bottom of the fare by tertre rouge - a kind of static skydiving ride where there is something like a jet engine on its nose with a very powerful column of air being blasted straight up which you dive into (and are supposed to be supported). anyway suggest you stay well clear next year.
if only the strippers were still around none of this would have happened. those days were so much more civilised....

stupid i know, but i was daft enough to have a go on that ride in the funfare at about 2 pm on sat lunchtime. no queue i thought - perfect timing. and not too pissed that i will hurl on the ride. all going quite well until i fell off the airstream and heard a sickening pop from my left shoulder. i limp off the ride holding my left arm in my right, thinking this may not have been such a good idea after all. then i throw up and pass out. after an hour i am on a morphine drip in a ambulance on my way to le mans hospital with a dislocated shoulder. very very sore. to cut a long story short i missed all the saturday racing (in my aco grandstand seat) but discharged myself when the gang arrived to take me to dinner where i topped up the morphine with red wine. french hospital and nurses are great. got some excellent souvenir x rays but won't be going on the funfare again for a while. sleeping on the floor with a strapped shoulder, and then driving the alpine back on sunday wasn't exactly a laugh either. sure there's a lesson in there somewhere. can't think what it is though. still had a great time - hope you did too. ps morphine is highly recommended.....

quite understand your point jp. but as i said the tickets actually stand us in at £100 each - all our other tickets bought via the tourist office with no aco discount. at much less than £65 we might as well sit on them and use the grandstand facilities and watch the finish from there. hope you can see where i'm coming from. rory

one tertre rouge camping ticket surplus to requirements for sale. sorry but it must come with a ga ticket also. face value for the whole lot is 128 euros incl postage fm tourist office, which i estimate to be about £90. tertre rouge is the best kept secret at le mans. very close to the track, view of the track from your tent if you get there early enough, shade from trees, easy to get in and out, not too big, 3 mins walk to dunlop bridge. first come first served. tickets in hand so can post special delivery for £3.75 and you will have them next day. not long now. rory ps these tickets are still there until i post that they have gone.

in case anyone interested this is the message i sent back to abs and nd. no reply from either so far. first come first served.
hadn't really thought about the price as i wasn't sure if there would be any takers. if you include the aco membership the tickets weigh in at £100 each (i only join to get the tickets as i don't usually use any of the other aco stuff during the weekend). i buy my camping and g/e tickets via the tourist board as the aco have let me down so many times. how about £65 each??? we could meet at the back of the stand at 7pm by the aco shop. if you want we could do half money prior and half on delivery. let me know what you think.

sorry to detract from the very uncommon topic of successful english cricket..... but if you ever see the number 18 c type check out the gnarly looking old testicle stuffed down the side of the cockpit. his son adrian, who now owns the car, swears it is the remains of an orange which duncan had in the car during the race in '53. apparently he was able to lock the steering wheel with his knees while on the mulsanne and peel an orange - until he took a sparrow in the face which broke his nose!!! another good bit of triv - his daughter caroline was the model in that old athena poster we all remember so well. the one with tennis player and the peachy cheeks..... she denies it but i have it on good authority. i was best man at her wedding. rory
