Club Arnage / General Discussion / Changes at Le Mans?

This was posted on another forum.................not good
Have just got back from WSR in Le mans and have to report the circuit has gone "cashless" a la Nurburgring. Have to pay for (1 euro) and charge up a card from various cash cabins set up around the place and then use that to buy all your drinks and food etc. Plan is that at the end of the day you line up and get refunded anything not used over 1 euro but you can imagine the queues at the end of the day so most don't bother. No displays on the tills either so difficult to know how much balance you have left. This was a much smaller event that the 24 hours and cannot imagine it working too well once 1/4 million people are using it. It all looks permanent as well so guessing it will be in place for the 24h in 2016.

Cheers Mulc, hopefully there's a little gem in there somewhere! PS Jason, Mike also knows John Brookes quite well. I know this because I discussed it with Brookes and his pal Brian Laban at Turn 10 Sebring in 2005! Steve Brown was also there but he had his best falling over trousers on at the time so may not remember so much. Not sure what crime I committed in an earlier life to be classified with Mike...........must have been something bad. David Lord did not start shooting Le Mans till 2001, I was working Suttons in 1990 so they have the archive material, I'll see what I can do. John Brooks

If you went out of the track at Les Combes, there was a chippy van parked up just beyond the gates doing a roaring trade, and at about half the price of the paddock equivalent.

Ken Breslauer, the Sage of Sebring brings us an update on the IDP situation in Florida
Statement from DHSMV on International Driving Permits
During the 2012 legislative session, the Florida Legislature amended section 322.04, Florida Statutes, to require visitors from outside the United States to have an International Driving Permit in order to drive lawfully in Florida. This change took effect Jan. 1, 2013.
It has come to the Department’s attention that this requirement may violate the Geneva Convention on Road Traffic (1949), an international treaty to which the United States is a signatory. Treaties to which the United States is a party preempt state laws in conflict with them.
Therefore, the Florida Highway Patrol will defer enforcement of violations of the amended statutory section until a final determination of the alignment of the amendment with the treaty can be made. Non-resident visitors to Florida who wish to drive while here will be required to have in their immediate possession a valid driver license issued in his or her name from another state or territory of the U.S. or from their country of residence. However, the FHP will not take enforcement action based solely on the lack of an International Driving Permit.

This popped up on FaceBook this morning, another pointless expense. However given the approach of law enforcement to those going to Sebring is not always positive, particularly if you are caught speeding, ignoring this new requirement could prove expensive, at best. http://www.flhsmv.gov/ddl/idp.htmlUSA (Florida) compulsory IDP – 1 January 2013 A law introduced in Florida, USA, on 1 January 2013 requires all persons who hold a licence issued outside of the US to carry an International Driving Permit along with their national driving licence. Without an IDP, a driver is therefore driving without a valid licence. If stopped, law enforcement has the options of: Arresting the driver and taking them to jail Or giving the driver a citation with a mandatory court appearance
