1  Club Arnage / General Discussion / FRENCH RADAR LOCATIONS? on: June 09, 2004, 12:38:15 pm
As it appears that the budding Inspector Clouseau's have decided to wage an all out war against the innocent British Le Mans motorists this year; I was wondering if anyone knows of a website that it is possible to locate the French radar traps. I have heard that one exists..........

Rcutler,

I know the Airtrack can be somewhat questionable as VIP (ie last year we were some distance away) but at least they mark out the pitches prior to arrival. We have tried the 'turn up and hope' a few years ago and it was a complete mess; so we use Airtrack to guarantee we get an area allocated. I was interested in the Club Arnage booking an area for members to camp but it did not seem to get off the ground so we have resorted to what we know again this year. If anyone organises an allocated area independantly we would be more than happy to hear about it for next year....

Snoring Rhino & Son,
Pop over and have a chat on the Ferry and perhaps join us for a coffee and breakfast. Are you one car ? You are more than welcome to take the run down with us. Our group will be meeting at the pub on the approach to the Ferry departure lines...

5  Club Arnage / Help / Re:How do you book for next year? on: June 26, 2003, 03:13:19 pm
Smokie,

With the amount of interest generated by your proposed block booking; would it not be possible to find an enterprising farmer who would rent out a field for the race period and a local supplier of porta loos.

Looking at the breakdown of costs by some of the hospitality firms: it would appear they are charging over £350 for the camping element of their Le Mans package.

We book approx 10 to 15 cars each year and always use a hospitality booking to ensure an allocated camping area. But feel that the overall price is extremely steep when you break it out into camping and ferry crossing.

It must be possible to capture 'Le Manner's' like ourselves if you were to offer the same service at a discount. All we ask is a bit of green and a place to s**t and shower.....

Judging by the enthusiasm and entrepreneurial flair of the members of the forum such a task may not be such a difficult one.

A C.A. run camping package; run by memebers for the members ??  Grin

If my history serves me right; there were no Speed Traps in force in August 1914 or September 1939.

7  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re:Official DVD release? on: June 26, 2003, 09:25:39 am
I got a copy of the speed Tribe DVD some time ago
The picture quality and the back tracks are very good
However don't expect to watch it and follow the race
It is purely a collection of moving images to music

Race footage is good though and it reminds me just how wet it was that year !

Gilles,

I must apologise for not making it to view the house on Sunday morning.

We did not return from Arnage until 7.45am and by that time I was far to drunk to consider driving my car. We ended up opening another couple of bottles on the campsite....!!

Do you have any photos that you can send me / or is the property on a website anywhere ?

I still have an interest but do not want to make a wasted journey if it is unsuitable.
If the classic Le Mans is on again I will probably make the journey down again (enjoyed it last yr)
But as this is a few months away it may have been sold by then.

I trust you enjoyed the Race.

Thanks Smokie for the valuable advice...

But the 6 berth caravan I'm towing blocks my view.....
11  Club Arnage / General Discussion / HELP REQUIRED WITH MCCLAREN F1 DESIGN PROBLEM on: June 06, 2003, 05:32:42 pm
I wonder if anyone can help me with a problem I discovered when taking my McClaren F! down to Le Mans last year:

Due to the central drivers seat position, and the passenger seats being slightly set back, my two twin Swedish girlfriends argue constantly all the way to the circuit and I am finding it hard to concentrate on my driving with the noise behind me...

Any suggestions.....?  Grin

13  Club Arnage / Help / le mans taxi numbers on: June 06, 2003, 01:51:02 pm
Gilles,

Any chance you can provide the number of a local taxi firm.

We are staying at Airtrack and want to book taxis to get to Arnage on Sat evening. Do not fancy risking this breathtesting with the local Starsky & Hutch !!?

15  Club Arnage / Help / Re:Shanghai des 24hrs on: June 06, 2003, 01:35:50 pm
Gents,

I rang the Shanghai to enquire about booking on Sat eve. They confirmed that I would be able to book and they still had availablity. She stressed there was no view whatsoever of the race track. So I'm afraid it will be several bottles of claret and a collection of pickled eggs at Arnage for our group
