Club Arnage / 2016 / 2 General Entry tickets for sale SOLD

Ok, I got it wrong. I've over ordered our GE list by 2, so I've got 2 for sale. I got them direct from the ACO, for 78 Euros, and they're e-tickets, so I can just e-mail them to the buyer, no need for the Royal Mail, or secret a rendezvous. Which is a bit of a shame really. Although admittedly convenient. H

I'm happy enough to tackle any procedure Tom. If there's anything that's outside my comfort zone, and tbh that's not likely, then my mate Dave should be able to step in. He's a great bloke, and one of the best bricklayers this area has to offer. H

Club Arnage / General Discussion / Spitfire Experience experience?
|
on: February 29, 2016, 06:58:32 pm

Well, it was a significant birthday a few days ago, and the family have clubbed together and want to buy me a flight in a Spitfire. For those that don't know, it's a modified Spit (there's only one I think), with an extra cockpit and canopy behind the original. Presents don't get much better than this, but when I saw the price, I went a bit pale, a sort of duck egg blue really. https://www.intotheblue.co.uk/flying-experiences/ww2-planes/spitfire-flights/two-seater-spitfire-flights/I don't want to appear ungrateful, or adopt any other hues of skin based camouflage, and a trip in a Spit would top a bucket list any day, but I'm thinking for a bit of aerial fun and nostalgia, a flight in a Tiger Moth might be a better alternative, -there's plenty around and it's a hell of a lot cheaper. Now I know vintage aviation is close to a lot of peoples hearts on this forum, - has anyone ticked the Spit or Tiger Moth box?

Fantastic! I hasten to add though, I didn't have a dog. There were a couple of mechanics apprentices watching things with me, - young local lads working with the earthworks plant. Quite a few muscles, and bare chested into the bargain. Steve Strange was one of the dudes dressed up with Bowie, and as soon as there was a gap in shooting, he was over like a rat up a drainpipe chatting the lads up. Did I say they were very young and very local? Anyway, they disappeared with Mr Strange once the filming finished, and were last seen getting into the crews coach. They turned up at work 4 days later. I've never actually seen a shell shocked veteran from WW1, but I imagine they must have looked a little like these lads when they got back. Never the same again. A real loss alright, I was surprised how much of a body blow it was when I heard the news. I was never really a huge fan, thinking his work was a bit patchy, I think 'Low' is the only album of his I've got. It says a lot though when I realise I probably know the words of all of his songs backwards, and almost every track of his reminds me of a time and a place. I guess that's the meaning of a Life Soundtrack. As it happens, I was inches away from the camera in the Ashes to Ashes video, and a mate of mine was driving the bulldozer (CAT D8 IIRC). He thought it was going to be his moment of fame, but then got well pissed off when the director gave him a black bin liner to put over his head. Can't say I blame the director tbh. H

Cheers Mike, it'll be great to catch up alright! I've already started greasing my trunnions, although I'm a little concerned as to the state of the tent. It was last packed away, in the wet, about 7 years ago. Also, I was very, very, drunk at the time. Could be livestock in there. H

We're booked! Or at least something that almost rhymes with booked. Blue Nord for us, via Speedchills. Not booked transport yet, and although I've been enjoying those endless youtube clips of young men dressed in what look like flying squirrel outfits jumping of cliffs and out of light aircraft, it's probably going to be the tunnel. Ooooohh, looking forward to it! I might opt for an induced coma for the next few months. Not that you'd tell.... H
