Club Arnage / Help / Re: MB or Karting Nord for the classic

cheers Barry I was under the misguided notion that KN was sealed inside the track and cut off during the race but just been naggin with a m8 and he's pointed out that there's a tunnel and the track goes over it so getting out of KN isn't a prob as you said. He also said that they're much the same and the only thing he missed when he stayed at KN was the nice raised embankment you get to stand/sit on to watch the race in MB

Club Arnage / Help / MB or Karting Nord for the classic
|

Hi guys we're about to book our tickets for the classic and I think we have the option at the mo of either MB or karting nord, we've stayed MB in 2006 & 2008 and it was ok and a few m8's have stayed karting nord and recon it's nicer than MB, which would you lot recommend. also some of us are going to be leaving on Sunday around 12 noon before the race ends and I was wondering if being on Karting nord (infield) was going to cause a prob for us getting out while the race was on. cheers

Your absolutely right m8, we did the Normandy war grave a couple of years back and that felt strange enough but this place really brings it home and to add insult to injury the story we heard while down there was that the SS managed to do all this to the wrong town.
the fires must have been ferocious, here's a pic of the church bell

cheers m8, we had a smashing time. we found that tribune by utter fluke , we were told by some one to park near the river and walk but when i saw the size of the hill i thought sod that and we jumped back in the car and parked further round, a french bloke saw us looking at our map and just pointed up a road so we stolled up it and within seconds found ourselfs at the conker tree hair pin. Brill event, gonna have to go again came back with plenty of Pineau so that should keep the wife happy for a while

Cheers lads the museum looks great but may be a tad out of our way for this trip but i'll keep it mind for next time we're in that neck of the woods. the race weekend sounds like its just what i'm after, a laid back car weekend . We where going to the cherente this trip anyway to see where the wifes chill out medication was distilled . we'll defo go to find Delamain while we're there m8, I'll let you know what she thought of it later. we only found out about this rempart race about a week ago purely by chance, so its a big added bonus for us. the mobile homes are now booked, 6 days in Angoloume and 4 days at Spa d'or , just got to sort the routes out now and some odd stop over nights enroute.

Hi guys Me & the ol lady are off to France in a few weeks to have a nosey at this classic road race down in the cherente http://www.circuit-des-remparts.com/index.php?skip=T&circuit_remparts=e64d3375f80a502fea3de2154e0232bf . Looks like we're gonna hire a mobile home about 20 mins North of Angouleme, plan is to leave on Mon 14th get down there for Tues 15th and visit the Pineau factorys & Brandy distillerys for a few days before the race starts on the 18/19/20th. I was just wondering if any of you lot have ever been to this race and if so have you any tips for where to park or get a good view of the race, roads to avoid etc, is it worth going to the Friday night "Concours d'élégance" . We're gonna leave Angloume on Mon 21st and take a slow drive up to Reims/Gueux to take a few pics of the car in front of the old pits and then carry on to Spa for the 6hr endurance race weekend. Can anyone think of anything else we should try to incorporate in to this trip whilst we're out there. cheers

hi hgb, this event took place on July 3/4/5 from what i can gather it's exactly the same as the Sept 6hr event just less well attended. couldn't have been more than 20 members of the public in the grandstands and a few less cars on the start line. We had the whole circuit to our selves, no queues and no hastle, bloody brill . the Spa 6hr classics being held on sept sat 26/sun 27 but will probably have practice on the fri 25th if it's the same as the July summer classic. Me & the wife are planning to go down to this on the thursday again and come home on the monday

pic 1 is our guy being pushed down the pitlane after his clutch went it's the closest he managed to get to the podium this time. lol
pic 2 all of us pushing the 4.5 ton fully loaded (spare wheels, jacks, tools etc) crew wagon up a slope after the ignition amp went just before they were leaving the circuit to head home, hows your luck.

Just like to start by thanking some of you guys for recommending the Spa D'Or campsite, really nice place (well compared to MB it was. lol) also loved Malmady beautifull little town for a wonder around. started off on a Thursday morning a tad early for my likeing (7.15 am ) had to be at the tunnel for 9.50. Met a nice bunch of bods at the tunnel calling them selves "the Bermondsey 250" , they drive around Europe in cars that they have bought for a max of £250, to raise money for a childs burn unit. they were all in fancy dress i.e Bjorn Borg, Arabs, SWAT, Batman & Robin etc . We did 763 mile all in all (there and back) and used 23.5 gallons of petrol so works out about 32.5 MPG (hell of a lot better than i expected from a TVR). Mainly sticking to between 65-75 on the motorways and having some nutty blasts around the mountain roads near the race track . We were lucky enough to bluff our way past security on the gates at the Spa race circuit, who after a bit of initial confusion due to them knowing no English and us knowing no French, they actually gave us a 3 day free entry and parking pass for the inner paddocks in with the proper racers, can only think they thought we were there to race and after all who are we to argue with security . For the trip back, we got to the Tunnel and they must have thought we were all together, as they put us with 2 Porsches, Caterham 7, another Chim and a GD Cobra owned by a bloke called Jim from Reading who had been on a 2000 mile drive (His journey started with the ferry to Bilbao on Friday and finished on monday at the tunnel) through Spain, France and finished at the Nurburgring . Unfortunatly the guy we went to cheer on and was racing his Ram Cobra in the Ardennes challenge started 2nd on the grid but suffered clutch failure 3/4 of the way through the main race whilst leading it, never mind he's back over there again for the September classic so better luck next time . here's a few links to the vids we took Cheng racing at Spa http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OctgAyZMgoEsingle seaters from 50's & 60's http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HTFl1EwPjRkmixed cars that ran http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9pYs6WNVlzQ1946 long lost footage http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVMJndX2Uuoand here's a few pics

Cheer m8, I'll put Malmady on the list. We did visit Spa last year for a few days while touring around the Ardennes, the wife cant wait to get back to the thermes she loved them, sadly the Francorchamps circuit was closed when we went, so we did the trip over to the ring and just our luck that was closed for the day also, so we settled for a beer in the bar over looking the F1 circuit. plan is if we like this race meet we may go over for the classic meet in sept.
someone told me there was a nice waterfall at Coo may try to find that while we're there.
