Classic races and moments from past GPs On the red button channel 301 before practice at 0210-0255, should be worth a watch.

I love Mallory, I went to my very first motor race there in 1971!
Wow, we started watching the same year then, my debut was 1971 at the 1000 km Nürburgring I've still got the programme, also for the GP that year, and the 1000km programme for 1970. The 1970 programme has a lap chart we did and also shows the time intervals between cars !! For some reason I gave up with the lap chart after two laps in 1971 !! Have you every thought of writing a book? cant be that many marshals been around for as long as you and to have travelled so far an wide. Maybe even just a short piece for Motorsport? Our just a short piece for the CA Guide 2011 Will give it a go Werner but can't promise anything !!

Hi Jannick, I'm also a marshal on the mulsanne but at post 31, which is by the tram terminus before the first chicane. We can feel the suction as they come past us at 185+ mph ,an awesome site. I'm with a crowd of Belgian marshals from Zolder and Spa, meeting up with them at Spa for the GP every year. This year will be my 20th in a row !!

Thanks for the kind comments folks, I will know on Tuesday what the score is. Had a big scare in December but I think that now the tumours are dormant, or stable so if so may not have to go back on chemo. Fingers crossed for Tue !!! I'll be at Le Mans whatever the result though !!

I marshall the GP every year at Spa, and have done so twice at Monza. We have been able to climb (not walk up )the banking in the week preceding the GP and it is so full of history, you can almost hear and feel the cars thundering around it !! I'm not sure what Ascari is like from a speccy point of view but it was awesome as a marshall, that is one experience I will never forget as they came under the baking and " attempted " to get through the first left hander !! As has been said the Parabolica and also the first chicane are special places to be but then so is the whole circuit, it just leeks history and passion out of every pore. The same as Spa one of the true great places left to experience in the sport. If you do go to Spa do take the time to go round the old long circuit ( I saw the last GP on it won by Pedro Rodriguez ) who held the lap record in the 917, spent 8 mins in top gear, didn't lift for the Masta kink and went round the slightly banked corner at Stavelot at 185 mph !!!! Both awesome circuits !
