wow looks amazing. And don't forget 'diet coke is just $2.50.'

Hold on - there aren't any racing cars in this either - it just gets better and better........................................

Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

oh no - the racing cars are there, but they're so close, that the standard zoom lens on the camera just cropped too much of the car to be useable..... you have to have a wide angle lens to get any kind of photo.

and the diet coke example was exactly that - an example....  I could have used anything from the $20 event t-shirts, to the $7 dollar cocktails at the Tequila Patron tent.....

As for your sarcasm - if you've not been, I wouldn't expect you to understand - there are plenty who will.

12 hours Brad - it only lasts 12 hours.......................just getting started and woops its all over...............

£4.50....  The exchange rate must have gone up for £ to Eur.   Roll Eyes

Average exchange rate over the weekend was 1.23€ to to £, so the beer was £4.47 for 50cl.

Still tasted like gnats by the Sunday though.

It was 6 Euro at Mulsanne - but tasted great on Sunday - so worth every cent in my humble..............see you all next year - well not Brad Z obviously.  Cheesy

Sorry to hear you feel that way Brad - I can't help feeling that if I were so disillusioned with it - then I don’t think I would bother going. But I am not so am already making plans for next year.

As for RLM - like I said before they have moved on to new audiences. That is there judgement call. I wish them every success with that.
21  Club Arnage / General Discussion / Re: Radio Le Mans on: June 20, 2012, 03:43:10 pm

Personally I think they did a great job again this year and should be getting credit, not grumblings. The whole experience would be poorer without them.

All fair points Si - and if I wasn't trackside I would tune in to RLM in an effort to get some of the feeling for what I would be missing. But to me anyway as a must have at trackside? NA - I am happier not listening to it - the incessant ramblings drove me nuts to be honest.

But that's fine - as I mentioned above by targeting their commentary toward those not at the race then RLM has moved on - and as a result, so have I.

This subject pops up every year the week after the race. One year RLM actually got sort of involved and said they would improve the relevance of the coverage for those of us fortunate enough to be trackside. They didn't - I don't even carry a radio now and haven’t for the last three/four years - though do listen to RLM in the car while moving round the various viewing areas during the race (its traditional). The diamond vision screens made it possible to no longer need to try to get any meaningful information from the RLM ramblings - thank goodness.

RLM was a life safer in the 1980's and 1990's and for that I thank them. But now it serves those not lucky enough to be at the circuit and I wish them well with that for the future.

The first year they used the new pits they had the winners presentation on the stairs which spirals up in the stand. Gave me the opportunity the nip over the walkway they use now and 'borrow' the finishing flag.

Brilliant!!!  Grin

Remember the podium that year well and on the post-race Monday me and one of my mates revisited the temporary podium and re-enacted Mazda's celebrations. There is a photo somewhere....

And yes Monkey, they did use one of the 905s as part of the spectacle .. we were right opposite it at the time (but no photos sadly). And a big Happy 21st To Monkey Jr. My own junior monkey will be making his first appearance at LM next year at the tender age of 15  Smiley

Thank you Mr Rick I will be sure to pass on your best wishes and wish you and your lad a great trip next year too.

....to the pits complex!!  Wink

The pitlane as we know it today was born under a fanfare of much fireworks, pomp and circumstance in 1991.

Just trawling through some old photos and came across these from 1990, the last year of the old pits (sniff, sniff)  Grin

Yes I seem to remember they set light to a Peugeot too that year.

Great pics!!!! - I have a draw full of these from the 1980's too - wonder if this was the 'Worlds Greatest Motor Races' golden era?? I do have fond memories. But not so much of the 1991 race itself as it was last the time I missed the race. The reason - my son Al - born 23rd June 1991 - he is twenty one this year too and will be there with me and team Monkey again next week.

How very amusing of them. A little inconvenient but I am happy to say that having checked , my pants are still dry. I am sure we will manage. Monkey

Quite interesting wasn't it. It looks like there were no reliability issues, which was a good step. It ran 50+ laps on the same set of tyres (which are said to still have plenty of life left in them... 6-7 stints on one set??). The only unanswered question is how many laps did it do on a tank of fuel? If it can keep out of the garage, this car could finish top ten easily.

Still fricking ugly, but impressive none the less.

Si

How very interesting - I have to confess to thinking this would never make it into the pit lane less alone out of it. And now I am looking to forward to seeing it in the flesh so to speak.

Not sure what a 'fricking' is but am guessing that it is not a good thing? In which case I agree – ugly!!

See you there..... NEXT WEEK - team Monkey.

Very sorry to hear you have been grog Jock. We will have a cold one (or two) waiting for you at Mulsanne again in June - I am sure SC will be happy to run you down there again. All the best for a speedy recovery.

I never thought I would say this but agree with FAX11 on this one. I am no engineer but even just looking at this abomination I wonder how they expect there to be any weight at all on the front wheels?? How will it go round corners?? Or am I missing something here??

Anyway I really just wanted to drop in a line to celebrate my affinity with FAX.  Grin

The world has gone insane.

Couldn't agree more.

Blimey that snuck up - and I have really screwed my diary - but thanks for the reminder. I think I will try to pop along Saturday to watch the support races and the first hour or two then pop back Sunday to watch the last few hours.
