Wonder if The Shoe can still cut the mustard or will it be a "Fat Arse" Mansell moment?

He will do a solid job and generate column inches for the Scuderia, but lets face it, the car is a bit of a shed.

Kimi wants to go rallying next year- lets have Alonso and Vettel in the red cars ;D

I would suggest that he has only looked in the cockpit of one of the latest cars and has not driven one. With the no testing rule he is not going to be able to try one either unless there is special dispensation, (why should there be?), why did they not give the drive to the test driver? It is all for the Press. He will be relatively quick but not up front. Is this a Bernie plot?

I think the teams have voted allow him a days testing.

Seems a bit rich when you compare ms's career to the new torro rosso driver who was only allowed a few trips up a runway in a straight line.

Double standards? Never.

However much I deplore his standards, I think he will do well and I hope he comes to no harm. I always think its a mistake to return.

It didn't do old Ratface Lauda any harm did it??

This whole thing smacks of F1 trying desperately to drum up some publicity.  What the hell is the point in running Schumacher out there?  Why not give Luca Badoer some seat time?  Perhaps since Schumacher's turned out to be a complete waste of time as a bike racer, he needs to boost his already pompous-ass, over-inflated ego.

Nope, he did do rather well 2nd time round!

I think Badoer's time has passed, there are plenty of other young drivers around however who could fill the seat well if thats the route they wanted to take, but given the pressure that surrounds Ferrari it could ruin their career.

But if I was Ferrari, and had one of the best drivers of a generation sitting around doing nothing I would be tempted to give him a ring.

Agreed he does come across as a pompus ass at times, but once he is in a car, he can drive the wheels of it and I am pretty sure he will give a good account of himself. Kimi had better up his game.

I tend to disagree with you on this on Nordic, I don't really see any value in running Schumacher out there other than to get some ink. If Badoer is past his sell by date, than call up one of the young hot shoes from one of the feeder formulas.  Everyone knows the car's nothing to write home about, so in some ways there's little pressure at all.  Personally I hope Schumacher falls on his face, that would verify my long held opinion that most of his succes was due to Ross Brawn and Rory Byrne, and the fact that, with the exception of Mika Hakkinen, he faced very liitle in the way of talented opposition.

Say what you like about him, he's still easily the best driver of a generation and it will be great to see him, Lewis & Fernando tearing it up in 7th, 8th & 9th place!!

From a competition point of view Ferrari has really nothing to loose this year - no chance for them to score a driver or constructor title.

So putting Schumacher into the car is really the best they can do, because they will get maximum PR for Ferrari and all their sponsors. No doubt the Ferrari will be much more visible on TV and in all other media with Schumacher at the wheel than with Badoer, Gene or a young driver.

Well I can agree with all of that.

Subject to the bike injury, I think he'll be straight back on the pace. I don't particularly like the guy, but he's quick when he has to be, and a devoted professional, and there really isn't much competition.  If Raikkinen, can come second, then MS has got to be on the podium.

Its just a shame he's not replacing Kimi - at least Massa tries

Badoer or Gene, I'd think.

Doesn't really up the level of interest, do it?  ::)

Stupid. They were much more successful with Mika in '99 :-\

In fairness, Salo has been away from Ferrari for 10 years and out of formula one for 6(?)  In that time, Badoer's done about a trillion laps in current-era Ferraris.

As much as I'd like to see Salo or Alesi (or Mansell or Berger or Rosberg  ;D ), that has roughly a snowball's chance.

I think it would be quite a stunt if Ferrari would get Piquet as their stand-in driver - at least they can get some feedback on the performance of Renault, as well as sticking their tongue out to Briatore :P

the story isn't quite dead...yet.  Ferrari are pushing to have a third car on the grid for next year occupied by you know who ;D

Apparently, the newly signed concorde agreement states that the 3rd car entered by teams is to shared around, so a full time 3rd car for Ferrari can't happen!
