Title: November meeting, '09 edition!
Post by: Paddy_NL on July 06, 2009, 11:35:39 pm
Howdy folks! ;D It's back: the Rotterdam meeting to celebrate the end of the race season (or just another excuse for a p1ss up, whatever comes first!).
Planned date to put down on the calendar is Saturday the 14th of November. Details will be about the same as the previous edition, that topic is still in the top 10 on this forum I believe ;)

We will work on posting more details soon, but I guess we should keep some unchanged as all liked it last time. Let the good times roll! 8)

P.S.  Was fun getting tyre tracks up the back of Rick's hand tho - that'll teach him not to try take me from behind!  ;D

Hearing "Officially" that the party is taking place this year has brightened up an otherwise boring day at work.
Time to get planning things ;D
Return tunnel out early Friday, back late Sunday looks to be £122 all in. ;D

As there will be quite a few of us making a similar journey, I wonder what it would cost to hire a large minibus to drive over?

A 17 seater would be about £250 + fuel

I'm definitely up for the trip, need to speak to Deeks and Jimbo as we may well ride. I'd imagine that Tray, Elvis, Wooly, Chris, Mark, Chelsea
et all will also be up for this too. You might want a bigger bus.

After the two Airbus "incidents" in recent time I would rather take a usual bus... even being driven by me I must add.

I've spoken to Paul Z and he's up for it, it's now in his diary. I can't imagine Gimpy's doing anything too important either. Chris Z is away on holiday in Madeira but will ask him on his return. I will be going too. So a fair collection of Zarses to at to the fray.

So....I spoke to some of my "airline people" and they say November shouldn't be too expensive, and if we can get a group of 10-15 together, we should be able to get a fairly hefty discount.

So...if we get an idea of the number of people who want to fly into Rotterdam on Friday morning, and from where, I can probably arrange a big booking.....

I will tell the airline we are all religious types, who are going on a pilgramage....which isn't the furthest thing from the truth ever ;)

You can only get to Rotterdam from City or Luton (sensibly).

Alternatively Gatwick or Saaaaafffff-ampton to Amsterdam then train onwards. Flybe from Southampton is currently £75 arriving Amsterdam at 9.05 am. Plenty of time for the 1pm deadline (whatever that's for).

Although don't book it yet as I still don't have clearance and I don't want to pay any more  ;D

Title: Re: November meeting, '09 edition!
Post by: Dirk3D_NL on July 13, 2009, 06:20:03 pm
the Luton flight is not bad, but city is better

Luton is Transavia, boeing 737
City is a Fokker 50 from VLM, more comfort, but slightly more expensive (altough, if you book now you should be fine)

Title: Re: November meeting, '09 edition!

£60 flight but £80 charges  :o for VLM

For those interested, you can fly from Leeds / Bradford  on the Friday morning arriving in Amsterdam at 9 am with Jet 2. Returning Monday morning arriving back in the UK at 10.00am for £45 all in if you only take hand luggage.

I am actually going to show up to this. At the moment. Well I've booked the hotel and will be booking the flight soon and I wouldn't miss Paddy running down the street naked for anything (due to my apparent gay tendencies  ::) )

Although I'm afraid I won't be snarching anywhere as I have no idea what it means. Maybe Andy Z can enlighten me, it sounds like something he might encounter whilst cruising around Crawley.

Bargain. I imagine the Zarses will go from gatwick. The flights land within half an hour of each other (Gatwick and Soton).

Still going from Southampton as I can catch a train from just down the road. Pig Pen the train will pass New Milton at 05:29 lad.

It's 5 minutes walk to the terminal building. Our train will get in at 6.02. It seems to be 30 minutes for hold baggage and 20 minutes for carry on.

Stu, Kate and I will almost certainly be flying from Southampton on the Friday morning, I think Hayley will be joining us to!  Mark/Hay, maybe you can travel to ours on the Thursday night and we can all go to the airport together in the morning?

The flight looks like £92 with luggage.

If there are a few people flying from/to Gatwick/Southampton on the Sunday afternoon/evening then maybe we could hire a mini bus to take us to/from Rotterdam?  If the train is 12 Euros each way then it might work out about the same between us...

Speaking for Stu and I, we wont be able to join the fun in Amsterdam on the Sunday night unfortunately as we're short on holiday for the rest of the year...

Have not decided yet if the Sussex Zarses will go Soton or LGW, but probably LGW as it's cheaper and more convenient. There's beds available at Chateau Zarse for all those who wish to join us. Paul Zarse wants to go from Soton so I'll let him know the details.

I doubt we'll be staying in the Dam on the sunday night, last time it was a disaster, we were all so knackered nobody had any get up and go left and we were embarrassngly tucked up in bed by 11pm. Dreadful.  :(

Vicky, what the f**k's luggage? Take only cabin baggage FFS! My baggage will consist of a toothbrush and a passport. Bloody women!  ::)

I might be interested in a bit of sunday night action. I'll be on the road though not in a gayboy plane. Let me know the sketch. i'm also trying to get hold of Deeks and jimbo, Stinky Bill is up for it but is a bit indisposed at the moment to to a close family bereavement.

I should try and get hold of my pal Sutherland, he's lived in central Amsterdam for years now, but I haven't seen him since my last visit 6 years ago.

I wish we'd pulled our fingers out earlier...  Whilst waiting for decisions to be made this evening FlyBe have increased their prices from £81 all in (no bags) to £105!!!  We managed to book one seat at £81, one at £91 and the other is just going through now at £105!  Flybe must be rubbing their hands together!

It their clever computer. It recognises when loads of people are looking at a particular flight well in advance and it ups the ante. It'll probably be back down to £80 in a few days.  :(

Zwijndrecht (I work there), Zuid-Beijerland is what I would call 'near Rotterdam'. ;) And of those only Zwijndrecht officially has a harbour according to the UN.

I wonder if this is down to the fact that BAA no longer own Gatwick from 1st November!

Guessing lower charges mean the airline can now justify flying from there.

yea been watching that, could not get a booking past 1st Nov.

VLM from manchester is over £400 round trip.

Could take Sleasy jet to Amsterdam and then train down.

Or might go wild and drive there!  Worth a thought.

Help needed........what is the address for the ?~~Irish Bar?

Title: Re: November meeting, '09 edition!

Given that we land at about 9am on friday and now have nothing to do all day except take in a cultural tour get larupsed, I'll be AMAZED if I make it anywhere near the Irish bar, so the fact that I don't know where it is shouldn't hamper progress at all.  ;D

What time you arriving then? If you're early enough just follow the carnage, I'm sure rex can leave a trail of girls knickers for you  :o

Are you staying at the Brainpark Novotel Wishy?

I do think that it is an approiate name for a hotel on a CA/DfH Rotterdam trip.

Hi Barry,

The reason I need the address for the Irish bar is to book a hotel as close as possible...........to reduce damage limitation in as much, less distance to stagger.

We have a hotel booked in the city centre but if it is not close enough then we will change to another hotel.

Andy

Myself, Rex, Claire, Queen Vic, StuartC, Hayley and Kate are arriving in AMS at 09:30

Assuming Rex doesn't get stopped going through customs I anticipate arriving in Rotterdam around 10:30 - 11:00. Not the airport though, I think the train goes somewhere else.

Actually can one of the Freeky Deekies tell us where we should go? I doubt we can get in the hotel at that time of day but we can probably leave luggage. We're staying at the Brainpark Novotel.

Maybe best to meet you somewhere later Bob. PM me your number if you want.

Paul Z is on that flight too, and you're meeting me at AMS to catch the train down together. I arrive 30 mins before you lot (assuming neither flight crashes; it is friday the thirteenth), so I can do some research when I land. Anyway I'm sure there'll be time for a pint before we set off.

Hi guys,

if you can make sure you'll get on a train all together (9 persons if I count correctly) I'll arrange a pickup at Rotterdam CS. Looking at the timeschedule, we'll then drive you over to the Novotel, as you can checkin there from 12.00, which would be perfect timing.

There are direct trains leaving on 10:13, 10:43 and 11:10. If you can catch one of those, give me a call (Andy Z and Rex should have my number, if not, I'll PM it) and we'll be waiting for you. :)

Cheers, and see you lot on friday!

We have a couple of hours to kill before getting to Zeewolde, looking for somewhere on the way (leaving from Schipol), to have lunch and look around, preferably 'old' Dutch rather than modern, the area/town that is, not the lunch.

Done a bit of research, and it looks like a choice between Muiderslot or Hardermijk.

Any thoughts about the choice from DfH would be appreciated, or other suggestions.

muiderslot might not be too bad, also an option is to have a lunch in Naarden-vesting, that is a very nice old dutch town, en route

Monday: Left Holland, but not without getting lost in Schipol Airport (seriously - that place is HUUUUUUUUUUGE).**

**Certain areas have ommitted purposely - areas such as bad behaviour, acting like idiots, falling over, getting told off by the police, being shouted at by ladyboy hookers, etc etc have all been left out, for the protection of those involved.
